I wasn't sure where to put this but I wanted to get your thoughts on it. I put it together quickly so constructive criticism is appreciated. Liberals don't care about the constitution so it isn't mentioned.

"
I'd like for you to ask yourself why you have such a hatred for firearms. Is is because you're being directed by the media?
What is the reason you want to ban some or all firearms? Is it because of the amount of firearms related deaths?
Are firearms related deaths the reason you support pistol purchase permits and federal background checks? Do you think these checks are effective and necessary to reduce firearm related deaths?
Do you support the ban of firearm possession by felons?
In 2017 (yes, this was after Trump got in office) there were nearly 40,000 firearms related deaths. Does this infuriate you? Do we need stricter laws for firearms purchases and ownership?
One last question. What if I told you (and gave you a link to a government website with information to back up my statement) that ALCOHOL related deaths in 2017 were 88,000. Would you want laws put in place that are stricter than those for firearms in order to save lives? Are you willing to go to the sheriff's office to buy a liquor or wine permit every time you want to purchase anything stronger than beer? Are you willing to wait on your bartender or cashier to call in a background check to purchase beer? These laws only make sense, there were more than twice as many alchohol related deaths so your outrage should be much higher.
You, the politicians and the media should be putting aside gun control immediately to get common sense alchohol control laws inScreenshot_20190804-091842_Samsung Internet.jpg Screenshot_20190804-082848_Samsung Internet.jpg effect...unless there's an agenda and facts aren't important. "

I don't have a source off the top of my head, but I recall reading that in order to reach the 39K number, CDC added in something along the lines of "military and police action" deaths by firearm.

Again, from memory, I think the total number from 2016 was about 33K.

Let’s try to keep numbers simple and round toward the benefit of gun control.

40,000 deaths and 25,000 are suicide. Let’s ban all firearms completely.

People who survive an initial suicide often do not try again, but some do. Let’s do a WAG (Wild Assed Guess) and say 20% end up committing suicide via overdose, jumping off a bridge, whatever. That is 5,000 people still dying.

Of the remaining 15,000 most of it is gang violence. That will still happen. They will go back to the old days of jumping people using chains, knives, bricks in a sock, whatever. Just to keep from breaking out all the justified defense/police shooting/accidents, etc. let’s say that 10% of those people still die due to violent crimes. That’s 1,500 more people dying.

So, 40,000 minus 6,500 means that we save 33,500 lives by banning all guns.

Now, the CDC says there are between 500k and 3M defensive gun uses each year. Let’s go with the low number of 500,000.

What percentage of those uses have to save a life to offset 33,500 lives? 7% (35,000).

To conclude, you have to ask yourself how many lives you think are saved by defensive firearm usage each year? You can debate the numbers because it is all a WAG, but if you think that even 7% of the times someone felt the need to use a firearm to defend themselves actually saved a life…then you have just killed 1500 more people than you saved by banning all the guns. And that 7% is based on the absolute best case scenario numbers that I can justify.

I appreciate your effort but it’s a bit like convincing a pig that your ideas on “being dirty” are right for them.

If you are trying to sway antis, it’s not likely to happen.

If you are trying to sway the fence sitters and undecided people watching you and the anti, that’s where it’s at. Never consider your success as changing an antis opinion. Best you can do is make an undecided observer consider your side.

Today we could write the greatest laws ever aimed at lowering gun violence ... gun laws really don’t prevent most crimes they’re just add ons to the crimes already being committed. Sure, there are a few crimes committed by just having a gun but most crimes where a gun is used are already illegal ... murder, robbery, assault, etc are all illegal with or without a gun. The gun laws liberals are screaming for will not make criminals already bent on committing crimes stop it will more likely make law abiding citizens in to criminals ... criminals who commit no crime other than that created by the laws true criminals don’t give a crap about.

ALSO the courts and prosecutors have to enforce that “latest and greatest” rather than plea bargain them away. There to us the fact a few years down the road some smartass liberal will find a way to twist the wording to fit their agenda and use it against us ... and there will be some left leaning US District court that will rule in their favor.
