What did age yall start taking your kids to shows/start going to shows? Debating taking my eight and a half year old stepson to see Flogging Molly and Social Distortion at Red Hat in Raleigh next weekend. My wife thinks he is a bit young but given he is a mature kid for his age I think he will have a blast. Not a huge deal but I think it would be awesome to be the one that took him to his first rock show

All depends on who’s playing. I’m not taking my 5 year old to see Iron Maiden but if she wanted to see Raffi I’d be ok with it.

Also depends on the venue. I saw an artist at an announced family friendly event put on a great, clean show. Saw the same guy a month later in a bar cursing like a sailor.

I’ll fall into the way more conservative end of the spectrum. Mine is 12, and not counting things like going to see The Wiggles years ago, he’s never been to a concert.

-His ears don’t need the abuse at this point.
-He has plenty of years left to be around a bunch of drunks and see/hear things he doesn’t hear at home.
-We’d never agree on an artist. :D

I considered taking my 12yo to Hatebreed/Terror but it was shot down by mom pretty quick. Use to be kids at shows at the skatepark in Kernersville from time to time. Never saw them get messed with and everyone usually gave them a wide buffer zone. I think if you hit a child even accidentally the ass beating will be substantial.

Do it. Ear pro.

I remember seeing a kid with double ear pro at a melvins show in 01, and he was freaking out it was so loud. But he was like 6, and clearly a giant pu55y in the making.

I've played with all sorts of bands whose children 5 and up were in tow for the concert, and played quite a few all ages shows where there were plenty of kids in the crowd. As stated, young ears are tender and the feedback will hurt them, so double up on ear pro. Some bands are so frigging brutal loud live (Ministry, Godflesh, Swans, Melvins, etc) that I would probably be little reticent.

Also make sure that your kids knows that while Mike Ness was one of the best hook writers of the early 80s punk/hardcore scene, he is an insufferable douche in real life, and should be ignored when he's not singing.

If you go, just dont talk about Trump, Mike Ness will try to fight you.

Oh, and I was just at a show in Chapel Hill on Wednesday night - The Menzingers at Cats Cradle.
On my way out I saw A BABY. No, not a toddler, A BABY. Had ear pro on and was sound asleep

Depending on the show, I say go for it.
My friend has taken his, at the time, 9 year old to see some bands
My first concert was Poison, I was 5 or 6.

Expose your kid to live music, they'll never forget it and will thank you for it

PS - F Mike Ness.

But Ive seen FM a few times years back (Swagger days), always a great show!

Dad took me to see Ozzie and Deep Purple when I was like 9 in the mid eighty's.... I turned out fine... Though opinions on that vary...

The only concert my parents would have accompanied me to would be Frank Sinatra.

My concerts were all sans parents... the first was Led Zepplin. It was a good choice!

You know what?

Colossus of Destiny.
Eye flies.

Thats right,

Dont make me transfer a DAT.

took my 12 yr old grandson to see aussie pink Floyd....great time. I would highly recommend them or Brit floyd peaceful and visually entertaining.... not like a mosh pit or a Jon Valby show.

Shows off. I got my calender screwed up and he will be at his dad's next weekend. The flame has been sparked however and now he wants to go to a rock show. I think I am going to try to find something outdoors---likely to be less noisey.

live music is so good
Last week I saw The Menzingers, a philly rock act
Tomorrow night - BAD RELIGION. Im freaking pumped to see these dudes again. Almost 40 years of punk rock

So many better things in life to expose your kids to.
You know you can expose kids to more than one thing, yeah?
What, in your opinion, is so bad about live music?

Reactions: Me.
My dad took me to see Johnny Paycheck at Liberty Elementary school. He was so drunk he had to sit down on a stool the roadies brought out. I was around 10, never forget that one:rolleyes:

Pop’s took me to a “bluegrass festival” back in ‘75 in Troy. I was 7. It was rough! Hippies laying around over dosed, fights, cutting, etc. I did get to see the original Marshall Tucker Band before we made a break for it. At that time we lived less than a mile from the concert on a 25 acre pond. The freaks found out about the pond and we woke up to a hundred stoned and naked hippies in the yard and pond, bathing and screwing. I remember pop’s saying if Nixon woulda sent all those hippies to Hanoi , North Vietnam woulda surrendered

Summer of 83 my dad took me to see Johnny Cash in Anchorage, AK first concert ever for me, I was 9. I don’t remember it being ear splitting loud like they are today.
I took my sisters kids to see Miley Cyrus Way back before she lost her mind and they wore foam plugs. I wanted foamies and ear muffs LoL.
