Shit for brains boss has been trying to fire me for a year now. Not going to give him the pleasure. This dude is a director that obviously got promoted to his level of incompetency a long time ago. I don't think he could manage building a dog house much less changing out about the whole infrastructure of a building complex.

Anywho, I cleaned out my office and retired Friday. I start social security and medicare 9/1. Have a list of projects a mile long at the homestead. Only limiting factor is now being on a fixed income.

I'm still looking for a job but nobody wants to hire old folks. Now I've got to settle into some sort of routine and not waste away like some of the retired folks I've known.

My biggest goal now is shooting an honest one hole group. PHA here I come. Can shoot during the week now, wheeeeeeeeee.

Congratulations you made it!

I retired at 63 in on April 1, 2016. Retirement is the best thing there is. I thank God every day He has allowed me to experience it as long as I have. Between shooting, hunting, fishing, canoeing and kayaking, woodworking, maintaining my home and property, etc, etc ,etc, I really don't have time to get bored. Be sure to start some kind of simple exercise routine (manageable or you won't stick with it) that mimics the exercise you were getting with your job, especially if your job was somewhat physical like mine. There is my 2 cents worth. Good luck and enjoy.

Congrats on retirement. As others said, get an exercise routine and take care of yourself. It also never hurts to review your financial position with a professional to determine how you can achieve your post-retirement goals and live the best life possible given your resources.

Take care of your health (mental and physical) and it will take care of u. I had to totally change my diet after retirement if I wanted to see 75. I shoot every other day on average and starting shooting competition/ matches again. Your story about your boss and your age is one I hear repeated every day. That's how company's today force older, more experienced and higher paid employees out. Make your life miserable, tell u that u are not doing a good job, give u poor performance reviews, crappy or no raise. The best revenge is living well. Good luck!

A friend of mine donates a day a week to habitat for humanity house building. He bought a nice lawnmower and mows a few yards here and there in the neighborhood. He also helps out a few local guys ( electricians, plumbers and a glass installer) on bigger projects as a gopher/ ground man. He stays busy and seems content in retirement. Congrats!!!

I'm just days away from 67 and still work full time. Luckily, my job is not physically demanding. The bad part is dealing with the public. I had always thought I would work as long as my health would allow. I still have pretty good health and have plans to continue on. But with Medicare and Social Security and a small pension, it's a good feeling to know that any time I can just throw in the towel.

@REELDOC , congrats to making it this far in life and enjoy your retirement, you earned it.

Have a goal every day - even if that goal is sitting in your easy chain and reading a new book. The more you keep yourself goal orientate, the healthier and mentally alert you will stay.

Congrats! I am no where close to being able to retire but I Day dream about it all the time. I cannot wait. I agree with the rest of the comments about staying busy, finding a hobby you love and discovering places that bring you peace.

I retired May 9 of this year at 61. Like you, the company as a whole was changing; it used to be a great little health care company and I got a lot of satisfaction from knowing that what I was doing made a difference every day in the lives of patients and nurses. But new corporate management came in, and they just seemed to see the company as a vehicle for advancing their far left wing social views. Then some of my favorite coworkers and customers moved on. I had wanted to work another year, but one day I woke up and decided I was done.

So after 92 days, I can say that I've been pretty busy every one. House projects, prep for deer season, fishing kayak, camper, shooting. Long bicycle ride three days a week. A three-week road trip in the camper to Louisiana, Texas, and Tennessee. I bought myself a new Tundra as a retirement present. Yesterday I was driving down the road and was just overcome with the feeling that I was the luckiest, most blessed man alive. Totally satisfied with who I am, what I have, my friends, and my relationship with God. I hope your retirement starts out as great as mine.

Before I retired the retirees I knew told me I'd be busier than ever after retirement. I just laughed. I had stocked up on books to read and "things to do" since I'd have so much "leisure time". Now, 10 years later I still have most of those books unread and a lot more that I have read to keep up with the Sunday School class I lead and all the other little projects of keeping up the home place and staying abreast of the changing world. The really great thing about retirement is going to the range during the week and having it all to yourself! Kids are grown and gone and grandchildren are too far away to see very often. And since my wife has also retired she has more time to ride my ass about getting all those honey-do things done around here. Retirement is like a time void and it fills up magically with all kinds of things. You'll have to learn, at some point, to just say "No".

Congratulations! I'm only a couple months behind you!

Congrats! Im sure youll find stuff to keep you busy.

Jealous as heck! ;)

Congrats!

I hope to retire in maybe four more years, but to do that I have to really get serious about wealth retention. I don't want to quit too early and give up my decent income too soon, but I also keep it real and consider that I'm at the top of my game here. That means, when times get lean, I may be one of the first ones gone because they could probably employ two young people for what they pay this one old, mouthy guy.

Also, I have to find something to occupy my time or I'll be a 350lb slob with a shellacked liver.

Congrats. If you're anything like my FIL, you'll be even busier now. Between his farm, Mach 1 restoration, canning, making smokers, handyman work... you get the point.

Congrats on retirement. Have you been introduced to cocaine and hookers? :D stay busy and stay healthy I have herd is the key. Stay physically and mentally in shape.

@REELDOC years ago I nicknamed one of my managers Peter, he never knew why as far as I know. Eventually started my own business and now can’t figure out the path to retirement, but at least I can fire the irritating employees.

Hope that you find stuff that you enjoy doing!

@REELDOC we are the same age. I am going on Medicare Part A and B on September 1 but since I am a Sole Member LLC I am going to continue to work and elect to wait until 66 to start getting my SSI. The best thing about working for yourself you do not have to worry about that boss. After my busy season ending on February 1st I am planning on shooting a lot more and when the fishing picks up wetting a shrimp or 2.

CONGRATS !! See if you can get hooked with some car dealers in your area to transport cars back and forth to other dealerships.

Retirement day 2................... Can't seem to get the hang of retirement. Still waking up at 05:00. Keep looking at the list of things to do and not getting much done. Been too dang hot to shoot. Missing the daily bull shit sessions with the buds. Chicken Lady is helping a lot but this is going to take some getting use to.

I'm sure it will all come together.....................

Exercise daily, shoot daily, sleep daily, eat daily and poop daily and all shall be well. Outside of that make sure you have hobbies that keep you busy and your mind active. If not retired people tend to pass quickly.
When does he get to drink and smoke?
