I did a search. Nothing came up...

I rarely go to Cary... I think i remember, in my cch class, that there is a little town that you are not allowed to ccw in. Is that Cary?

My real question is, "Is Koka Booth Amphitheatre posted? " I just checked their website and found no mention of guns either way...

Have any of you been to a concert there recently? Are they posted? Any metal detectors?

Thanks y'all!

I was there about a week ago. I didn't see postings but it is on their website. No metal detectors but they searched bags.

This is great info... I always follow all laws, and I'm a man, so no bag to search... I'll be sure to tell my wife she is not allowed to bring contraband in her purse...

Thanks bud.

Yeah it took some digging for me to find it too.

Cary adheres to all the state laws. You can carry concealed.

Did i misunderstand something in my cch class? Is there a small town near RTP that has a town ordinance against concealed carry?

Not that I am aware of. When did you take the class? Cary is 160,000 population.

Koka Booth is owned by the town, and like any other town, they can post gunbusters on town buildings.

We are fortunate in NC that the Legislature has made state wide consistency a priority. No municipality, county, school district, nor any other form of government charted in NC can make any ordinance (about anything) that the Legislature did not give them authority to make. If you read the gun laws about where you can carry, you will see the phrase "a municipality may make an ordinance prohibiting..." followed by some very specific language. For example, some towns wanted to ban carry on greenways. Because they didn't have the authority, they tried to redefine a greenway as an athletic field because people jog on it, and the Legislature has given them the authority to prohibit carry on athletic fields. (GRNC gave them a pretty good slap-down on that one). So no, there is no town that has passed a blanket prohibition on CC. They may prohibit carry in a town building, and most do, because most people who work for Government want to be the only ones that can have guns.

I was referring to this particular question, not the one about Koka Booth. But you are correct.

Chapel Hill and I believe Cary (?) had interesting restrictions on open carry at one time but I believe those were addressed by a revision to state law a few years ago. Concealed carry was not affected though.

My wife and I were there a few weeks ago. They checked her bag and swept her with a metal detector but let me walk straight through. Uh, guys, she's the (kinda) harmless one! I figured they were more interested in catching someone trying to smuggle in their own food and drink than anything else.

I can't speak to Chapel Hill, but Cary (not the State) rewrote their OC ordinances a few years ago. I spoke to the town's police officer that was coordinating that. He said they were getting more calls in recent years, mostly people wanting to OC, and the new ordinances are actually more friendly to OC. Essentially, the town does not restrict OC on any private property, e.g., Wal-Mart. Just like nearly every other town, they do prohibit OC on the town hall campus and other town-owned property, including city parks and greenways. OC on city streets and sidewalks is limited to a handgun (no rifles) and must remain holstered. The town simply complies with state law regarding CC.

The complete ordinance is section 22-51. Here's the link to section 22, scroll down to find 22-51.

I believe each event also has their own security protocols so it may vary depending.

Chapel Hill used to prevent OC of any firearm less that 6" in length, and any handgun at all on public property, which amazing included a lot of private property used for parking. Here is the old verbiage:
Private parking lots and privately owned open areas, subject to town police officer parking and/or trespass regulatory authority at the request of the owners, function in virtually the same manner as publicly-owned property.

This is why we need state preemption.

Last I heard, it was Chapel Hill that had issues, but don't take it as gospel.
Chapel Hill definitely has issues. But that’s mainly due to that ugly color of blue everywhere. :D

I have not looked at any part of this thread with the exception of the initial inquiry. First of all, it's an amphitheater where large crowds gather. Secondly, it's in Cary which is a suburb of Chapel Hill. I don't even have to go there and ZI can answer your question. YES!!!!
