ROCK HILL, S.C. — Police say an officer with the Rock Hill Police Department accidentally discharged their weapon

"Their" weapon? Was there more than one officer or did "they" share "their" weapon???? God I hate this PC speak......

Private businesses fire employees for endangering others, immediately. They even fire them for accidentally hurting themselves on the job.

He should be dismissed immediately and not collector another dime.

Investigators say the officer was cleaning the firearm just before 4pm on August 12th when the incident happened.

Sounds like people and even the police need to stop cleaning firearms.

Just how dirty can one get when just carried? Ive run then for thousands of rounds during many many matches and dont clean them. They will still go bang the next time I need them to

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, what was that idiot thinking? I would never clean my gun in an office environment. I will do so at my home, but I unload it, and triple verify the empty chamber visually and hysicslly while leaving the bullets in another room.

That has got to be to poster child for negligent discharge.

At any rate, I always wait until I am in a crowded building with all my coworkers hanging out before I start finger banging my gun. It's a perfect time for gun cleaning, barring a kids birthday party or maybe Thanksgiving dinner.

I find the most opportune time to clean my firearm is while driving on the highway. Its relaxing to listen to the radio, disassemble my firearm, and talk on the phone in peace...all while driving at 70 miles per hour

Doesn't work that way with people who make their living off of other's taxes.

Billy Mack, a detective down in Texas who knows just exactly what the facts is, makes his living the same way.

I'm so tired of hearing claims of accidents during gun cleaning. What a bunch of BS.

Although, I did have a friend who had a personel Walther PPK discharge in a police locker room once. Everyday, he would chamber a round and drop the hammer via the safety. One day, the firing pin broke from the repeated battering and the front piece went forward and discharged the round. Fortunately, it was pointed in a safe direction and no one was injured.
BTW, the hammer never strikes the firing pin in a PPKS when the safety is on. It's blocked. But, the repeated hammer drops metal fatigued the firing pin anyway.

But how much lint and Cheeto dust can they take and still fire?

I was brought a 147gr Gold Dot from the bathroom at work one day. Guessing some officer decided to get in some dryfire or something. Warm fuzzies all around.

What's PC about Their? I'm guessing it's because the gender of the officer is not named?

The usage of the plural "their" in lieu of the singular his/her is well attested (see below), but one suspects the motive in the original article is not one of mere euphony, but probably that of diluting individual responsibility rhetorically into the broader collective (that, or, as you suggest, to mask a sex specific pronoun).

From: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/their

They, their, them, themselves: English lacks a common-gender third person singular pronoun that can be used to refer to indefinite pronouns (such as everyone, anyone, someone). Writers and speakers have supplied this lack by using the plural pronouns. and every one to rest themselves betake — William Shakespeare I would have everybody marry if they can do it properly — Jane Austen it is too hideous for anyone in their senses to buy — W. H. Auden The plural pronouns have also been put to use as pronouns of indefinite number to refer to singular nouns that stand for many persons. 'tis meet that some more audience than a mother, since nature makes them partial, should o'erhear the speech — William Shakespeare a person can't help their birth — W. M. Thackeray no man goes to battle to be killed. — But they do get killed — G. B. Shaw The use of they, their, them, and themselves as pronouns of indefinite gender and indefinite number is well established in speech and writing, even in literary and formal contexts. This gives you the option of using the plural pronouns where you think they sound best, and of using the singular pronouns (such as he, she, he or she, and their inflected forms) where you think they sound best.

OMG, I've never seen this before.:D
If you like, or can at least put up with, watching Will Ferrell and/or Mark Wahlberg movies...you gotta watch that one. I find it hilarious. (The Other Guys is the name of it)

The Prius
The hot wife
Dwayne Johnson and Sam Jackson
Office pop
Etc, etc

The LT. fired his off duty weapon IN the police station.

Exactly. Plural non-gender specific pronoun in lieu of singular gender specific pronoun.
