So, the ATF says that it we keep records of our sales, we are a dealer. If we make more than occasional transactions with a firearm, then it is supposedly a problem.

Keeping bills of sales of fireams transactions makes "some" people ffl dealers.

What is an "Occasional Transaction" exactly?

Why are we victimizing one another with these oppressive rules? Where do these "rules" come from?

It is law enforcement's job to investigate crimes, so if there is a crime involving this firearm, let them investigate.

Will I be asked for a stool sample next? Another DNA sample of some sort?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if a buyer is a NC resident, with a NCDL, with a concealed carry permit or a pistol purchase permit, he/she can legally buy the handgun from me. All legal requirements are fulfilled, right?

Why do we do this to one another?

misplaced paranoia and faith in a useless piece of paper. I'll sign one but I'll never require one. You're not getting copies of my license or CHP unless you have a badge and a warrant
Why would you even sign one?? That doesn't sound like you at all!!! It's not required legally, is it?

yeah, I try to determine why some people need that. It's not legally binding for anything, and if I get that far it is what it is. Most of the time I just keep scrolling when an Ad mentions its. I think I have signed 2 BOS in the last 10 years for 2 really good trades in my favor, but I've never let them copy or hold anything other than see my CHP and NCDL

As I get older, I realize we are all on the same highway (hopefully) as gun owners, and some are further along than others. IF you would have asked me to sign anything or copy anything 15 years ago and copy my stuff I would have probably said sure why not. But after you get your ID stolen a few times you quit leaving your info all over the place. 10 years ago I was skeptical, 5 years ago I would have been violently opposed. But now I just try to understand and educate my fellow (newb most likely or fudd) gun owners as to why it's not required

If it's not required, I'm not going to do it, but you go ahead.
(I'm feeling very contrary tonight, maybe that's what's bugging me! LOL.)

but the difference is you are 1. a quick learner and 2. easily influenced by some contrarian influences up in the CFF ;)

Some people don't see anything wrong with begging the sheriff every time they wanna buy a handgun in NC, or paying a nice sum to throw a shirt over it.
Some others don't understand why they need to openly carry in their state, and some people just want to own firearms with more than 10 rounds.

Soon the time is coming where none of this crap is gonna matter much, and the powers that be are gonna have their hands wayyyy too full to worry about the honest people that actually care enough to do anything they ask

I found a Hi Point Bullpup locally I wanted and the guy and I decided on a price. When I asked about paperwork he said I could send him a pic of my CHP. I told him that I wasn’t going to that. In told him that CHP want needed in a long gun purchase. I told him if it made him feel better we could go through a FFL as long as he paid for it. He refused and told me I need to buy another guy.

I missed out on a great deal last year because I wouldn’t do a BOS or copies ID’s. The guy said he wouldn’t sell to me because I was paranoid. I laughed and told him he was one one making up laws for some reason. They are the “ I’m a 2a guy,,but” people.

So how many of you really believe your personal stuff is safe because you won't do a bill of sale???

To clarify...we don’t refuse to do these things out of some overblown sense of keeping it hidden from big brother. He sees PMs here , he tracks internet traffic (if he cared to). We don’t do it because it’s not required by law. I don’t need to leave a copy of my ID at the grocery store to buy wine, so why give it to some strange guy I’m buying something I am perfectly within my rights to own?

It’s also because I don’t know you. I don’t want you specifically to have any more information about me than I want you to have.

So you would pass up a good deal on a firearm because a BOS is not rquired by law? Ok.

People above have literally detailed a few times that they have in this very thread. Saving a few bucks isn’t as important to some as their principles.

I’ve signed them, I don’t care as much, I’d prefer not too. I won’t give copies of anything, but I’ll show them. But what most of us get irritated by are the “oh by the way, I need x, y, and z from you even though we never discussed them before.”

Won't argue with you there
All aspects of a sale/trade should be made clear up front and not subject to change except in extreme circumstances and by agreement of both parties.

TBF ... I do a BOS for anything expensive, gun or otherwise, just because I'm OCD and like to keep records.

I don't ask for anything we don't both already know. I also don't surprise people with them at the last minute like an afterthought.

Darn those principles always getting in the way.

Btw if I wanted to fill out paperwork I would just buy from my table top FFL. He takes layaway and I bet most others wont lol

I would be willing to bet that a percentage of the papers you are "required " to sign at a car dealership are something the dealer wants and are not required by law but people sign them anyway.
