What kind of tree is this?

Can't tell for sure from pic, but looks liek some version of laurel.

Another vote for Pin oak.

Looks like a willow oak to me, but there are some shrub species that look similar at that size. Did you find it on sandy, dry, or "poor" farmed out land? Willow oaks can tolerate dry and depleted soil better than most.

Deer love the acorns. Supposedly sweeter than red or white oak.

In the fall when you're trying to get the leaves up, you'll wish you had killed it. They're messy.
My folks planted four of them in 1965. They were pretty darn huge by 1995 when dad passed. Mom tried to manage those leaves (that are like raking sand) for about three years and finally sold the house.

Willow oak - a member of the red oak family. They tend to grow fast. I’ve milled 54” - 60” diameter logs that came from trees less than 80 years old.

They are the reason I bought the biggest backpack blower Stihl makes. It's like blowing lint out of velcro in my yard in about 2-3 months.

pin oak
hated how bad the yard got each fall/winter with those danged leaves EVERYWHERE.
Every dang one goes brown and falls off.

Pin oak has the more oak-shaped leaves, that’s a willow oak.

Y'all rake? Lol! That's what lawnmowers with mulching blades are for.
Problem with those type leaves is you can only get half of them. They are so small and light that they keep blowing out in front of you before the mowing deck gets to them.

And dig down into the grass. I hate ‘em.

All y'all complaining about the leaves add not the tassels too, which turn to glue in the gutters, and the tiny akerns that feel like you're stepping on Legos.

I have 4 enormous ones around the house. They keep the power bill down, but you ain't going to grow grass underneath them or not clean up after them all year long.
