Greenville Gunfighters' Monthly Cowboy Matches

Last I knew she had a horse farm up around Travelers Rest.
She use to ride and shoot from horse back in the SSA events.
I lost touch with her some time ago.
Nice lady.

Nice lady.

I am acquainted with a couple of folks who are mounted shooters but they are a separate organization from cowboy action shooters.

We had enough shooters in Greenville yesterday to make three posses. Two of the folks on my posse where fairly new shooters; this was the second match for each of them. This video shows one of them shooting a "stand and deliver" stage clean. You can tell he's having a good time.

Our next match is this Sunday July 22.

Greenville is hosting the SC State Match on September 20-23. We usually have vendors and special events at these “big” matches so it will be fun.

Copy that. I work in Greenville now and need a place to shoot when I’m supposed to be working. I’ll look into it tomorrow. Thanks

Matches are usually open to non-members but otherwise it’s a private club. Members and guests only. There are several indoor ranges in the Greenville area, though.

I need to make friends with a member then because it looks like they are not accepting at the moment. I guess I’ll have to stay home on Friday’s and shoot at Rowan.

Our last match of the year falls just before Christmas on Sunday December 23. The bad weather has caused a couple of Upstate matches to be called off so I’m looking forward to this one.

Our next Greenville match on March 24 will include, in addition to the usual cowboy match, a Wild Bunch match. Fun with a 1911 on steel targets. Both matches will run at the same time but on separate bays.

I think I’ve posted a description of Wild Bunch Action Shooting in a separate thread but questions are welcome.

Hopefully the cold weather and rain are over and we can have some good outdoor weather.

We are having our usual cowboy match this Sunday but we canceled the Wild Bunch “option” since we are a bit short staffed this month.

We had several new shooters last month so we are having a fairly straightforward match this weekend. Just the ticket to help new shooters learn the sport.

We have room for more new shooters and visitors and spectators are always welcome.

Our July match is coming up this Sunday. Looks like reasonably mild weather for midsummer.

I’m returning to a black powder category which should be fun. One of the nice aspects of this game is the ability to switch categories and try a different shooting style, different ammunition ition or a different type of firearm.

Looking forward to a good match this Sunday August 25; cooler temps and the rain forecast has improved. We usually beat the forecast on rain anyway.

Some fun stuff this month including pop up Clays and an “1873 stage”.

We did a little promoting at the Greenville gun show which usually results in new folks coming by to check out the sport.

Next Greenville match is Sunday September 22 which makes it the last match before the SC State Match in Ridgeville September 26-29. I expect a good turnout since folks like to get some practice in.

At our October match on Sunday October 27 we are planning another “Wild Bunch option” which means you get to choose between shooting cowboy and Wild Bunch. We are also planning the Wild Bunch to use (1911) pistol and (12 gauge 1897/Model 12) shotgun only; no rifle.

We are planning to offer a five stage Wild Bunch match at the Greenville Gunfighters’ monthly match on Sunday, October 27, 2019.

We will shoot at the same time as the cowboy action match, but on totally separate bays. We will have some variety in target types and distances.

Any SASS legal rifle will be allowed-we are waiving the .40 caliber minimum rifle rule, however, be prepared for knockdown targets that may not fall to a light cowboy load.

Wild Bunch rules now allow shooters to stage magazines and ammunition so don’t let a lack of legal magazine pouches hold you back.

As with cowboy action, cartridges must be loaded with lead bullets. Shotshells must be loaded with lead shot, size 7.5 or smaller (club rule).

Contact me with any questions about Wild Bunch Action Shooting. It’s challenging and fun.

I’ve been a little remiss in updating the thread. Our October match was canceled due to rain on setup day and a poor forecast on match day.

Our monthly cowboy match will be November 24 which is the Sunday before Thanksgiving. We will not offer Wild Bunch that day but we might try again in December. I hope so since I have some new .45 ACP ammo to try.
