Did You Go Shooting Today

A friend of mine and I went through 100 rounds of 12 gauge trap shooting with tactical shotgun’s on the back side of the farm this past weekend It was a blast. He was shooting a older Benelli M4, and I was shooting an M2.

There are some pretty reasonable deals out now on automatic trap throwers. I picked up a Champion Wheelybird Auto-feed trap thrower with remote for $240.00 recently and I’m really pleased with the product for the $.

Went to my first "Pro-Am" style match out at The Range in Oxford yesterday. Whoa - that is a fun format to shoot. It a lot like their falling steel match, but more targets and on a par time. Watching people feel the pressure as their time comes to an end and just hammer on the trigger is hilarious.

Yes, Wizard, Yes then finished off the mag on 6" steel plates at 7 yds. Need to wear my electronic muffs next time. Could barely hear the buzzer with foamy's in.

When you win a match, you are supposed to come on here and find a way to mention that.

Try the "humble-brag" approach. "Shot this weekend, and even though I'm terrible, I managed to pull off the win......."

HAHA - not really my style.

I shot "The Casino Drill" today. Once with an EDC X9 and then a Yost BHP. Made the time on the BHP but dropped 2 shots. Missed the time by 2 seconds with the EDC X9 but shot that clean. I make my own targets because I am cheap. You load a total of 21 rounds into 3 mags. I have someone else load the mags with different numbers of rounds so I don't know who many are in each mag. The object is to complete the 21 rounds in under 21 seconds. No misses. There are 2 mag changes and most of the time they are in the middle of a target. So you have shot the 4 twice and you now have to execute a mag change and then remember you have to hit that "4" 2 more times before you move on to 5.

Made a quick run to the range with a S&W 22A, CMMG 223 and the pistol AR in 223 and 300 BO.
I was having problems with the S&W feeding and had Smith send me new guts for the slide. Not one problem today and it surprises me how accurate this gun is.
The new muzzle break on the pistol 223 works great. Money well spent. The 300 BO ran great without the first problem. These were super-sonic.
Then to to 500 yard range with the CCMG. For some reason this gun does not get much range time and that is my fault. I can not believe how this gun shoots. I would put it up with some of the best ARs that I have shot. At 200 yards, the 6" steel was no problem and the 3" not as easy. 300 yards, no problem on 6 to 8" steel. Could not see the 400 yard steel because of the weeds. Tried 500 and could not see the impact on steel or surroundings. Wind was swilling around 10 to 15 MPH.

I shot the 1911 .45 today and then the G19.
(I must not be shooting enough, my arms got tired towards the end......dang!!)

Wellllll, all the shooters are gone. Back to Monroe, Wagram, and all points of Horry. With several witnesses this time I officially became the first to Kill the Wizard. G26 with G19 mags and mag sleeves. Head shots all in 1.6s with 10 yard shots at 2.29.
This is the fourth time I did it but first time with another person running the timer and several witnesses.
NOW.... who's next???

I ran the timer for Billy and this was his first 5 shots of the day. He kicked the Wizard! This was time for the last 2 rounds.

Had visitors yesterday and I ran around 100 rounds thru the 66-1.

The good news is, no paint was harmed. o_O
Now you be careful with that 66. You know a K Frames is from Italy. A little town named Fragile. BS! Hey, really though, any failure to feed or eject? Ima bet NOT! You will come out the other side of this with Much better trigger control. Oh and a really slick action K Frame.

Funny you’d ask. Started having a very occasional light strike (pretty sure I don’t have the screw borked down enough and it has backed out) and some failures to extract. Could that mean it’s finally time to clean the gun?

Limp wristing.

And you didn't wait for me to get down there to see you do it!! lol.

Not today, but did spend a lovely mental health day at Battery Oaks Sunday.

I shot a grand total of 16 rounds from the G19, but my day was mostly about just sitting and listening to people talking and shooting, watching them have a go at the Wizard.....and the Wizard was biting back that day! LOL.

Went with a dear friend & fellow CFFer to DPRC to zero/verify zero optics on some of our long guns & play a bit with handguns.

My little Marlin 60 with a 2.5-7x28 Weaver still shoots little bitty groups at 25yds. Haven't shot long guns in I don't know how long & figured I'd start off with .22lr, before I started spending a dollar with every trigger pull. Love that gun.

Zeroed the RDS on my 10.5" .300BLK AR & verified that the Vortex Viper 2-7x32 on my 18" 6.8SPC AR was still 'on' at 25yds, then moved over to 100yds to fine-tune, then bang a little steel for fun. The 6.8 was just too easy to ring the 6" gong at & I couldn't quit grinning, ringing the 8" gong with the SBR & no magnification. Yeah, I know 8" at 100yds is no big deal, but my eyes have gone to hell & I can't/won't use irons past 50yds.

Got to put a few rounds through my bud's 16" Ruger Scout Rifle with the muzzle brake & one of those has moved straight to the top of my 'next' list. I'd been thinking about their American Rifle Hunter in .308, but that Scout Rifle was so light & handy, even with a scope mounted & kind of a pussycat to shoot. My OCD-ness keeps wanting to drag me toward a 'precision rifle' in .308, even though I don't have anywhere to actually shoot at 'precision rifle' distances 'n the Scout Rifle is a much better fit for any type of shooting I'd be doing that required a .308.

By the time we switched to handguns, it was hot & the only open pistol bay was uncovered, so we didn't spend a lot of time. Ran 3 mags through my LC9s with our current carry ammo (124gr +P XTPs) to check function of both the pistol & 2 mags. Recently put night sights on the G26 & ran 2 quick mags through it to make sure the sights were 'on'.

Finally shot my G34. Just a quick 2 mags at 5-7yds to see how it shot. I dig it. Time to get the Vortex Venom mounted & start spending some quality time together.

Went to Frontline today not expecting it to be busy, and it wasn't busy for a little while. It was getting busy right before lunchtime, though.

I had five different types of factory ammo to try out in my AR chambered in 224 Valkyrie. A couple look promising. I'm saving all the brass so I can start working up my own loads. The best today was Federal Gold Medal Match 90 with a 5 shot group of 1.1" @ 100 yards.

I picked up a used Sub 2k not long ago, and the first time I took it out I had feeding problems with the mags that came with the gun. Today I tried the mags from my Beretta and it ran flawlessly. Happy happy happy. I have some stronger mag springs ordered.

I also put some more rounds through my fairly-new-to-me FNX 45. I previously found out that it does not like my reduced loads, so I had some hotter loads today that seemed to work fine. The only problem I had was a stovepipe when I shot weak hand only, and I attribute that to limp-wristing. I may need to bump the charge another 0.1gn. I am also looking at options for reduced strength recoil springs.

Overall it was a great day.

Went up to PBR in Mooresville this morning and fired 350 Speer Gold Dot LE 124 grain rounds out of my new Sig 365 with no problems. I'll be taking it back next week and shoot another 200 rounds before I decide if it's going to replace my Shield 9mm for EDC.

Yesterday I gave the RIA about 150 rounds and the G19 with the .22 conversion about 50 rounds. Had some issues with the .22....I was surprised!
The RIA gave me a stuck case that came out easily, but had a really weird powder pattern on one side of it, and the gun made a funny muffled sound right before I noticed the case in there.
But any day shooting is good for me, and I had fun.

Millie,

Sounds like you nearly had a squib round. STOP immediately if you hear that sound again and clear the gun. Inspect the chamber and barrel for a stuck bullet. Inspecting can also be accomplished by inserting a pen, pencil or cleaning rod down the locked open pistol. Bad things happen if you fire another round on top of that stuck bullet ie bulging the barrel or blowing up the gun (bore obstruction).

I did look in the gun, after taking the magazine out, and nothing was stuck. (I'll probably need to put a "stick" of some sort in my bag in case I do get something stuck in any of the guns!) It was the oddest sound, I had never heard anything like it. LoL.
I saved the case, and I got a pic of it at the range, but I can't get it to my email to post it here....lol.
