From the story:

The guy is 72 years old and a long time collector. His son (or asshole, if I read it right) called the law because he was "concerned" for his dad's well being.

Some snippets:

Police responded by raiding the man's house and seizing all his firearms even though the man's family says he wasn't a danger to anyone but himself. “The man, who has been hospitalized, had at least 39 guns, multiple grenades and more than 2,000 rounds of ammunition, according to police.”

OK, 2000 rounds, 39 firearms and INERT grenades. Arsenal??

And, it goes on:

According to Lieutenant Dennis Rosenbaum of the Philadelphia Police Department, unless the family petition the courts to get the firearms back, they will be destroyed. Rosenbaum seems to think the family will not request to get the guns back.
“I don't think they're going to be trying to get the weapons back,” Rosenbaum told NBC. “I've talked to the family today as of an hour ago and they just don't want them to wind up in the wrong hands. They seem to be very nice people.”

OK, go ahead and confiscate and destroy my firearms. See the can of holy hell that gets unleashed then. Some will be forced to hit the black market. And the toys are much more fun over there.

That old feller should give the rest of his money to the NRA. No inheritance for you, son!

Can they confiscate guns that are in a Trust?

Described as a “collector” ... unless the family petitions the court the guns will be destroyed ... hmmm?

If he was even a casual collector wonder what he had? A Garand or two ... a M1 Carbine ... a couple 1911’s? What old warhorses will be lost because some petty little SOB got pissy and turned in family? Someone needs a good swift kick in the jewels ...

We are going to see more and more of this. Family feuds leading to this. I recently cut off all support and contact to a very toxic family member. Payback like this would be right up their alley. They are making these RFL’s, are they making it a crime to abuse them?

So let's say you have a beef with a family member, neighbor, co-worker, whatever. They call the law and push this red flag bullshit. Now let's say you are detained, arrested, confined, whatever flavor of violation your local officials use. Here is what I see:

1. If you HAD a job, probably won't be getting it back. So, that leads to
2. no income. You have bills, payments, etc. Will you loose your house? car?
3. Let's say it wasn't you immediately family. So how do your wife and kids survive?

Now let's say you prove your innocence to the state (I always thought it was innocent until proven guilty, but what do I know)

4. Lawyer fees. and fees and fees.

Now, you have lost your job. House in foreclosure. In debt to an attorney. Do you go after the state to get your items back? Or do you just say effit and let them go because you are BROKE and living in your car.

ALL part of a plan?

property
[ prop-er-tee ]

noun, plural prop·er·ties.
that which a person owns; the possession or possessions of a particular owner: They lost all their property in the fire

Remove the word firearms and weapons and insert the word property. Seems that a first week on the job lawyer should be able to destroy the police department on this easy. And then any one else involved.

Just think about all the cops on this forum, that said they would never come door to door for our guns. They will be the ones coming to out doors under the new red flag laws to take them. Never trust the police, they are comprised, money means more to them then morals.

I'm close enough to 72 that this hits home harder than it should.

If one of my sons (nope, never -- make that one of my in-laws) did this, they'd be getting a serious case of out-patient boogaloo!

In this case, where the man was apparently hospitalized, either voluntarily or otherwise, I don’t necessarily fault the son for calling in a wellness check or for being honest that dad owned guns. I don’t even blame the police for securing the guns if they would otherwise have been in an abandoned residence for a significant period, assuming that they offered to allow the family to secure them first.

As usual, we don’t have enough information, but I can say with certainty that the police chief should be fired for his grandstanding.

They listed the Grenades for the wow factor, to make it sound dangerous. If they are INERT Grenades they are legal.

Massive stockpile of  39 is a joke.....
They sensationalize news for the really stupid and uninformed.

So was the rest of what they "confiscated".

See that's the other thing. If some disgruntled asshole hates me and calls one of these red dildos on me... say best case scenario I get everything back and "We're sorry."

Well that's swell, what if something very expensive is suddenly damaged in the hands of the cops? The jerk that called them on me for no reason just cost me thousands with no recourse.

Given the current state of Facebook that's a BEST case scenario.

BA3E1630-4936-4ABC-903D-16691FE6F54C.jpeg Hey, what would people think about this on a desk at work? Best HR would have a field day!

Oh yeah ... that exact model can be purchased legally and delivered to your door with no checks or such from Midway USA for $36.99 https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1003171226?pid=245760 . I also remember a guy at a shoot driving a Jeep that had an inert Vietnam M67 baseball as a shifter knob ... some people are triggered to easily if they don’t take a few seconds to think about things.

“The man, who has been hospitalized,........"

What was the reason for being in the hospital? It's one thing if he had a knee replacement, quite another if he was hearing voices as it relates to red flag laws.

I had one of those on my desk when I worked in customer service. Couldn’t do it now

Maybe that's the actual goal? Been trying to disarm cops specifically for awhile now; as often as they beat their wives it might not be too hard.

Some liberals own guns.

Just saying.

I honestly hope some good lawyer helps the man get his firearms back, they have no reason to destroy them.
Until he has a court date with a judge and a lawyer this is just wrong, no due process, no way to defend himself from these claims.

What's going to happen when an LEO wife calls in a red flag on her husband, are they going to raid his house SWAT style and kill the dog?

LEO on LEO red flag is going to be interesting.
Similar to what I was thinking the other day. A group, or a gang, could set up an ambush, call in a RF, and wait for the cops to show up. Basically, swatting the swatters.

Just give it time. This RF crap is going to go straight to hell.

From the article, sounds like the 72 year old was suicidal. I don't see if that was the case why the son did not go over to his fathers house and just remove the weapons himself.

That's hard. I had to take car keys from a parent a little while back. It was not a very pleasant day for any of us. But it was family business that had to be done, so I did it. Sounds like the son in this confiscation case prefers to let the state take care of his family business for him. God save me from raising sons like that.

I'd do just what my father would do to me if I was a stupid ungrateful little bastard & turned him in. He'd take me out of this world just as quick as he brought me into it.

Where's that number? I think these people are a danger to themselves and others...

I do honestly believe, that IF any of these commies get elected to the office, there WILL be a confiscation of firearms, ammo and magazines. These aren't your parents Democrats of the 40's - 90's. These are honest to goodness, full blooded commies. No doubt about that. The 2A is the biggest obstacle to their goals.

Unless Trump is replaced by a conservative, the next President whether Repub or Dem will limit the 2A to the point of strangling it.
