Ein Prosit Der Gemütlichkeit!

Yup it's about that time of year again und ich mag bier!

Anybody have plans for Oktoberfest this year? We are visiting about 3 breweries and a nice 'fest in Pineville.
Yes I am wearing Lederhosen lol. Yes my wife will be wearing a Dirndl :D

No plans. While stationed in Germany, wifey and I went to München one year for Octoberfest. Had a blast, saw plenty of bierleichen, and that was enough for one lifetime lol. We don't do large crowds anymore lol.
We went to the (much) smaller celebrations local to our village. That was more our speed and alot more fun, too.

lmao at bierleichen. Yeah we do small and family atmosphere mostly, my teenagers either hate or love it depending on their mood.

This year we are going to the Waldhorn again, which if you like the village-type fests, is about as close as you will get around CLT. The food is outstanding!

And the first weekend a polka band from DC called Mike Surratt and the Continentals will be there, which is a whole other case of fun. They cover Pink Floyd and Led Zepplin in polka style in between traditional songs lol.

The best Oktoberfest I have ever been to is the one at Snowbird Utah. It isn't the alps, but man it looks like it.

We went to Savannah a couple times for their version.

The first time was pretty good. The second time was meh.

So more than likely over the course of the next 3 weekends after this one we will hit up Waldhorn Olde Meck then Cabarrus then back to Waldhorn the last weekend. I plan on crushing quite a bit of schnitzel and sausages at Waldhorn. Would love to make the trip to Helen but the crowds get big there.

There arent many German eateries in Meck county these days besides Waldhorn. Used to be a good one on Park Rd. next to the bicycle shop at the loop going to West Blvd., but shuttered.

So this weekend's O-fest activities were bookends around a charity crossfit competition that my wife had entered with her friend that had given birth about 4 weeks ago. They didn't do great but just being there was a win.

However, stein hoisting at OMB was a different story. She won her bodyweight in free OMB beer, and I got 3rd place which was enough to fill our growlers lol. Unlike NASCAR, Stein Holding (Masskkrugstemmen) is a real sport y'all :D

If you love beer and people then get out to a Fest near you...

Spent 7 1/2 yrs in Germany n never did the Munich O-fest. Too many drunk GIs & tourists for my taste.

Besides, I did 2 tours in Stuttgart, which had the 2nd largest Fest in the world n was only a 5 - 10 min. S-bahn ride away.

What's even more funny is Stuttgart isnt even in Bavaria. The owner of the Waldhorn in Pineville is Swabian from Stuttgart and is great people

Will have to check that place out sometime. Don't get many opportunities to speak Schwaebisch any more.

They do a fest tent for the next 3 weekends then it's back to plain ol jagerschnitzl for me. Make sure you check out the Olde Mecklenburg brewery a few miles away in LoSo. I am thankful neither of those places are close enough to me to ruin my life [emoji23]

I have another TDY to Wiesbaden Oct 7-11...always a good time no matter when I go....I love that the Russians are bad guys again.

These are my three favorite memes/pics for this time of year:

Went to Octoberfest in Durham last weekend at MotorCo/Parts&Labor. They had a German band, dancing girls and lots of deerskin pants... and 1L DuckRabbit Octoberfests in steins for $10...

I did 3 years in Furth/Nuremberg and you guys have got me thirsty!! I did the Munich thing in ‘88 as it was my last October there. Won a bunch of money off of the college guys that came over to the University there. They couldn’t handle much of the hefe wiezen.
I joined the West German Army Reserves in early ‘87 so I’d go out with those guys when my unit wasn’t in the field. I miss the parties the little villages would throw for the German unit when they hosted us for training. I was fond of EKU hefe wiezen back then and several years ago I found some at Frugal McDougal’s in Charlotte. I bought 2 racks. I was happy after I got the first one down, I was happy when I finished the first rack, and I think I was just as happy when I soiled myself and passed out...

She’s really looks the part.

Congrats to both of you!

I always preferred the little local, village fests. More laid back & fun, IMO.

I dated a chick from a little Black Forest village outside Karlsruhe & her village & the village across the valley had fests on the same weekend. The other village always had a Heidelbeer (blueberry) weinfest. We'd always bounce back & forth, partying & getting tanked up on that yummy blueberry wine at the other village, then coming back to 'our' village to nom rotisserie chicken & steak sandwiches & pommes frittes & washing it all down with copious quantities Asbach & cola.
