Angry vet takes on anti-2A veterans

I know I will catch some flak for this...but this new "you cant argue wit me, I am a vet" stuff is getting irritating. I get it, we respect veterans. I always have, always will. But lets be fair, we all know that there are just as many morons that managed to make it through a military career as any other career. Slapping "but I am a vet!" on every point someone makes degrades the actual influence vets may have. So yay, this guy had some good points. But sheesh, enough with the "im a vet" stuff...I have met a good number of vets I wouldn't trust walking my dog much less dictating public policy.

Just because you've supposedly taken an oath to defend the constitution, etc, doesn't really mean much for a lot of people when the proverbial rubber meets the road.

Uniforms do not make heroes, only reveals the true man. People I know who have smoked bad guys 20 plus years are the same guys who would run into a burning building to rescue innocents and the same who would cut your grass when you are on vacation.

The same can be said for law enforcement as well.

As a sample size veterans represent the larger populations; so, you get nutty lefties and arch-conservatives. I buy the argument that the officer corps as a whole is slanted right. But good for this guy to call out these vets for their stupid POS and totally illogical and nonsensical perspectives.

I totally agree with not deifying vets as omnipotent and supermen. Except me. I am both.

I had a platoon-mate in Recon, he was about as (democratic)-socialist as you can get. All for free stuff, no democrat was left enough for him (this was early 90s). Nutty bastard. But I trusted him with my life; best pig-handler/SAW-gunner I ever saw.

I love this.

Vets are not, by any stretch of the imagination, a unified front on everything.

Or anything, really.

Because we come from all walks of life. Just like everybody else.

"I AM A VET! HEAR ME ROAR!"

Me: *pssst! Hey, buddy!*

WHAT?!?

Me: I'm a vet, too. How 'bout you take it down a notch, 'cause you ain't speaking for me.

Hell, I’ve always hated when people thank me for my service or ask me dumb questions like “Mr Brandon, did you ever kill someone?” Like ugh, don’t thank me I did nothing special. Thank and remember the ones that didn’t come home alive or whole.

But the DS in the video, love his vids. Good stuff

You shouldn't catch too much flak; usually those who are the loudest and proudest about their status as a veteran, whether on TV, in the street, or at the VA are the ones who really didn't do much of anything of importance, didn't sacrifice much, and in many cases never left CONUS. There are exceptions of course, but a lot of vets roll their eyes at those douche canoes too.

The problem is post 9/11 adoration syndrome where a population that by and large hasn't the faintest perception that these United States have been at war for nearly 2 decades other than the reports on the news gets to virtue signal how great they are via magnets, bumper stickers, and social media.....while experiencing no hardship of any kind.

But we appeal to authority all the time to try and give a questionable point more solid footing, or sell something that by itself is on shaky ground...

"As a mom, I know a thing or two about kid nutrition...." You do? What does taking a full load to term and birthing a child have to do with nutrition? But it sells Flintstones vitamins, or kids yogurt, or whatever.

Right there with you. If asked, I will say I was in the Navy. It invariably leads to the convo closer of "Well thanks so much for your service. We really do appreciate it."

I appreciate the sentiment, but it's been 12 years since I last did anything in the military, and there are men and women far more deserving of thanks than I. It's something I volunteered to do, I did my job as best as I could, and now I have another job.

Not to judge folks too harshly, but I think"Thank you for your service" makes the speaker feel better about themselves than it is sincere thankfulness.

The same can be said for law enforcement as well.

The biggest difference is law enforcement gets their asses in a sling and all kinds of bent out of shape ifpeople don't fall over themselves to thank them for their "service," which is a lot like those loudest vets I spoke about above...but instead of being a vocal minority tends to be the majority of civilian law dogs.
