The upcoming Read ID needed for flying and federal dealings, will you have to have it to buy a gun? NCIC is a federal check right?

I don’t fly, so no need for it for that but I am just wondering if they are gonna use it for more things down the road, only time I have been in a federal building was for jury duty..

Most likely....

Probably just a precursor to a f*ing microchip.

I just needed to renew my license (expires next month) and do an address change.

4 1/2 hours. Incompetence is the word of I think of while sitting in a DMV.

The Real ID crap pisses me off. What, the one you same people have been giving me for 40 years is not real? Sheesh.

What has happened IMO is they are finding out it was a mistake to hand out IDs to illegals and now they have to come up with something else. Now they trying to sell it to us a some awesome great thing.

It’ll be interesting to see how it evolves. First you’ll need it for flights. As an ID for gun purchases is almost certainly on the list, as is renting a car and eventually maybe proving citizenship for obtaining a job or voting.

They are moving towards making them mandatory. Other states already have. Both the girls have them, since they needed the paperwork for their initial license anyway. Problem is, neither me or my wife had a legit birth certificate. All the way through school, college degree, state job with multiple SLED background checks. But now you tell me it's not legit. Wife ordered a replacement for her and I'll need to get one at some point.

I got my DL renewed a couple of weeks ago. I was going to get the real ID at the same time. I got out all of the necessary documents and I had everything....except my birth certificate was from the hospital. I did not have the Virginia birth certificate. I sent off for it and just got it this weekend. Now, I'll have to go back to the DMV and do it all over again.

They had hospitals back then??????

Yes, you can see the hospital behind mom's obstetrician.

This will be the best advice I give all day...
Make a appointment before going to the DMV!
Wilmington DMV is slow!
There is always a line that fills the waiting area and spills outside.
I walked in, waited in the short line to check in, was told to find a seat in waiting room... Approximately 3-5 minutes and they called my number!!!!
I was in and out in under 20 minutes (renewed DL w/ real ID & added "veteran" endorsement)

As I said, I'm confident this will be the best advice I give today (maybe, this week)

I renewed my DL online. It had expired, oops, and it was a quick way to restore my “privilege” per the crown. Not a “real” ID. I’ll do that later. I have a passport for now.

My wife had a similar experience at the HP DMV. With an appointment, she was out in 15 minutes; all the while getting stinkeye from the appointmentless.

Considering that I don't enter federal establishments and that I have a valid passport, I'm going to resist the crown's insistence on the "real id" for as long as I can get away with it.

I am skeptical of the whole thing. I saw how the CAC card went; those bad boys were supposed to have your whole med record on it. I will get one only because I fly, but otherwise I am not too interested.

Made appointments for me and missus with DMV two months ago for today in Fuquay. Got there and I wasn’t in their system, but they gathered our documents, including my laminated SS card which they were fine with, and we were up two bat in less than five minutes. Bada bing, bada boom.

I hate the whole damn thing but I’ve got a brother in the northeast with a slowly dying wife and I’d like the option of being able to fly to the funeral if it happens after October 2020 when Real ID is in full effect.

And convenience is how they reel us in for everything. Finger prints and face Id for phones. Real ID. We are so screwed.
