Was driving up 40 from Raleigh to Durham. Look over and there are three ladies apparently stranded on side of road. There was a Vtwin bike parked behind car.

Hell's Angel in his vest with "colors" (or "cut"? not sure) pouring gas out of a new gas can into car. I surmised, because bike was behind car, that dude had stopped, then went and got gas and came back and filled car. Was in a spot that I don't see biker having enough time to park behind car unless he was coming back around and was ready for it.

Not breaking news but an odd sight, none the less. Made me do some thinking. What did ladies think when he initially pulled over? Gangster turned hero?

Who knows? I can only guess.

I have been to a number of bike rallies were H.A.s were around and never had a problem with them or seen them causing a problem. I just kept to myself and they kept doing what they were doing. At one time in Charleston, there was a Heritage Bike Rally and the H.A.s had a spot in one of the display halls and Sonny was there signing his book. Some of the biggest guys that I have seen were all around him. Almost looked like a offensive line for a pro-football team.

My dad arrested Sonny back in the 70's!

We used to live pretty close to the Oakland clubhouse. Hung out with a dude whose dad was "terry the Tramp, a well down HA.
Meh, in my experience they are...... not generally good people. But yeah they never bothered me. But I stay far away.

I know few of the local HA folks, regular guys, work regular jobs. Grew up across the street from an old Breed house, they were great folks, our block was the safest block in the neighborhood. Also had an HA house a couple blocks away.
They have changed quite a bit from the old outlaw days.

Like most of society a lot of them are only concerned with themselves. Some are complete D bags, some are willing to go out of their way for strangers.

I lived at the end of the road where a good number came to disappear it seems, there'd be a big fed raid ocassionally that'd find interesting things and people.

Hung around a club/bar the local prez? went to a lot. The HA's never bothered me, the people that worshipped them and wanted to be prospects were who I tended to have issues with.

When I used to go to shows in Oakland/SF, I'd go out to smoke, and the prospects would be out there guarding the bikes.
While the other dudes went in and watched the shows.

I used to think "well aren't you a couple of good little bitches" lol. Never could get my head around that. Watch your own bike son.

Had an apartment around the corner from this little run down house. 89 out of 90 days, nobody was home. Came back from a day trip on a Saturday to a yard full of bikes and bikers, most wearing HA colors. Holy S#IT!!! It was getting dark and they were just getting "cranked" up. We spent the night in a hotel and I gave my landlord my 30 day notice. It's been years but we drove by there the other day and the apartments are abandoned along with the landlords house. At this moment I cannot remember if the biker house was still there or not. Had a bud who worked for a HA front business. The business was legit but I think they were laundering money thru it. My bud had a loaded 357 pressed to his head a couple times just to make sure he understood that no embezzlement would be tolerated. F#ckers give me the creeps!

Ive raced against them, been around some at various times, never had a problem with any MC member.

1%ers are different & their club is their life, but they're also people- some are good dudes, some are douchebags.

I've known & partied with a couple HA guys back when & they were pretty cool dudes. Can't tell you if they were good people or not, as I didn't know them well enough to judge, but they were always personable when out & about. Was even invited to a private party at their clubhouse in Durham once. Politely claimed I had a prior engagement, as I was waiting on a security clearance to come through & didn't need some alphabet agency sending DIA my photograph. Don't be a douche & they'll return the favor.

When I was a kid, my dad prospected for one of the very old, 'traditional' MCs in OKC in the early 80's & they were pretty tight with the Outlaws. Those MFers seemed to be terminally angry & looking for trouble. I was as wild & precocious a biker's kid as you could be back then, but those dudes made me nervous. That & one of my stepmom's older brother stole a Bandido's bike, back when they & the Outlaws were killing each other all over town. Didn't stop me from growing up to be scooter trash, but certainly turned me off from the MC thing.

Maybe the Hell's Angels just have better PR mechanisms in place?

......just like anyone else in that type of business......socially, neighborly, etc...they are generally good people, you are fairly unlikely to ever have a problem with them. It can get sketchy if you are doing business with them. 3 chicks on the side of the road......come on who wouldnt

In Savannah we did not have the HA but did have an OutLaws Chapter. I got pretty friendly with a couple of them and during some rides/runs I was asked to ride with them. The owner of the Harley shop lived behind me and he introduced me to a few of them. Never had any problems but never went to their clubhouse.

They might be mostly good people, not trying to attract undue attention, unless you:

-owe them money
-insult them
-knock over/damage/have a car accident with a bike
-are in a opposing 1% group
-are law enforcement

You fall into a category above and you’ll probably get different reception

Very true, but if you're in the first group, you've made some extremely poor life decisions. Same with the second & third. The 4th already knows the score & can roll with it, same as number 5.

I mean, 'big bad bikers' don't impress/scare me none at all, but I'm not dumb enough to think being a dick to a 1%er is a good idea. Not defending them, but it is what it is & while I got no beef with it, I also don't want that level of sketch in my life anymore. If yer not in the life, you'll never have a problem with one. I'm sure 'official' interaction with LE is ugly, but most are smart enough not to go running around antagonizing cops unnecessarily.

When I was a Drill at ft Jackson, there was some local “MC” chapter of a national one...military, active and vets, joined. Can’t remember the name. Anyway, there were some soldiers from Jackson in this “MC” who added something...a bottom rocker or a third bauble that made their cut appear as if they were a 1% club. They went into a bar and were quickly approached by some real deal guys saying “Who are you and what the F are you doing here?” Some which backtracking and explanations saved them some pain but it almost cost them...and they left immediately. Just an anecdotal story.

As far as an accident...I saw a dash cam footage of a nighttime accident where a guy hit some 1%er...fault seemed pretty fairly mixed. Owning the road driving by the biker and lack of attention by the car driver. The MC got wind of it and came by threatening the driver of the car. Not really a poor life decision, just a circumstance.

The accident thing is unusual. Those guys tend to be very squared away riders, or at least they were when I was out & about. Some folks are just shitbirds & that can't be helped. Of course, I've heard similar stories involving LE. Shitbirds.

Regarding Joe dressing like a pirate, that was simply very poor SA on their part. Like it or not, the 1%er world is a thing & they take it very seriously. If yer gonna run around & play biker, there are some things you just don't do. Playing dress up will get you in trouble if you're stupid.

I especially like the Billy bad ass HA biker on the $20,000 Harley open carrying a Hi point in an Uncle Mike's velcro holster and a big blade strapped to his leg.

In case of SHTF....the gun jams on the first shot and he probably cuts his leg getting the knife out.

That last one^^^^ That's what you want to do. Do Not take them to your house, Do Not show them your "stuff". To Real HAs you are only a mark.

Billy knows whats up.

I think that about covers it. Don't be a dumbass and you won't likely have much trouble.

I've changed many tires on the side of the road, several times in car, but many times on bike.

One thing I learned, if you pull over and help a woman on the side of the road: if she is single, you ARE getting a phone number!

It sure is funny to read all these. Anyone here ever been engaged in conversation with a member? Or is everyone reciting shit they've read, herd etc. Lest I remind you the Angles sponsor the biggest toy ride every year. EVERY YEAR! Unless you have a personal experience to share, keep the bull shit to your self. @NKD you sure it was an Angel. They dont normally travel alone.

No experience with them. I like hanging out in places where I am the most dangerous person not the least.

Never had a problem. Had friends that rode with the Outlaws. But, I think it's a mutual respect thing. ;)

I know some HA members and know some members of some support groups. I've been invited to a couple of their parties and went both times. Just another party, no shootings or knifeings.

They are just like any other organized crime syndicate. Stay away from them and the Mafia and you will be ok.
Does sponsoring a toy run give a group a free pass for running drugs, girls, and guns?

Grandmother had a tire go flat in front of a bar one afternoon and 2 HA guys had her back on the road before I could get there. I went in and bought them a couple beers as a thank you. They didn’t even want those.
This actually happened to me and my great grandmother years ago in Salisbury when I was still riding in carseats.
A bar was the only thing open in the area she stopped so she went in to use the phone. Some HA's put her spare on and had her back on the road in a couple minutes, which was a blessing because my great grandfather's vision was so bad at that point he didn't have a license and couldn't have come to pick us up.

A long time ago I used to play in a blues cover band and one of our regular gigs was the local HA bar. The then prez was a huge ZZ Top fan, and we had several Top songs in our set, so we were pretty golden! The Crown and Coke flowed like water and during our breaks there was always some "old lady" blowing shotguns out back. I'd leave at the end of the night seeing triple! Never had any trouble, but never started any either. Just be cool. I also never invited them over for a cookout.

Said prez did end up at the business end of a 12ga a few years later.

Not any more than it does our own government or any other criminal organization. Never heard of MS-13, Los Zetas, or Gangster Disciples stopping to help an old lady change a flat tire, or helping disadvantaged children, though. Doubt they'd buy you a beer if you happened to meet one at a bar, either.

I used to work with a guy that road with the Iron Horsemen up in Massachusetts and rode with a guy that was a former Outlaw. Both were good guys and would help you out.

Bill the Iron Horsemen, showed me pictures when had broken both legs when a car fell on him and with cast up to his groin on both legs, they had him up on his bike riding. He had a hand shifter on the bike and when they got where they were going, he would ride up between a couple guys and they would catch his bike and help him off.

George the former Outlaw is deaf in one ear where a rival 1%'er fired a .44 mag next to his ear instead of shooting him in the head.

I bumped into a "Biker For Christ" member at a hotel in New Bern a couple weeks ago. We both said "excuse me", smiled and wished each other a blessed day. That's how I roll.
