Anyone fishing now? Haven't seen too many good reports. My favorite pier State Park is closed as well as a couple others. Water still looks hot.

I haven’t been since may but the fishing was decent then from the pier. Caught a bunch of small whiting and croaker and saw a few permit pulled up. I’m hoping they have the pier opened up in time for our trip in October. We’re going down the 3rd thru 6th and staying at the state park. If the pier is open I’ll be there everyday.

They said State Park may not be open until end of October if then. 10 pilings damaged and have to be replaced. Sucks big time since I stay at Ocean Lakes. May drive all the way to Cherry Grove or Apache next week after the king tourn is done this weekend. I didn't get in the tourn this year, too much hassle.

Garden City does not allow king fishing but that is another option. I might fish there while the king tourn is going on this weekend. Or just fish in the surf in front of the camp ground. Would like to find some access to fish in the canals and sound but that is limited.

BOB, I my actually be able to make it. Have to check with Chicken Lady and see which week in October we are going back down. Trailer may be rented that week and I don't want to pay hotel rates. Retirement income doesn't allow that.

Cherry grove has a fishing dock at the boat ramp and I caught a keeper flounder from the bank at the far end of the parking lot in the channel that runs under the bridge. If the state park is closed I might head to Apache one day. Would love to catch a king but don’t have the equipment or knowledge on how to.

King fishing gets in your blood. Caught my first one off Sportsmans pier over 50 years ago, haven't stopped since. Fished mostly on the Oceanna after the owner of the Sportsman got a little strange. Biggest king off Sprfsmans was 47.75. Had a day in1971 when we put 126 Kings on the deck. Those were the good old days.

When I started going to SOS I fished Cherry Grove. Now we go to Ocean Lakes and State Park is close. Long haul to Cherry Grove. May make the trip a couple days, Apache a couple days and Garden City. May fish surf, who knows. Happy as long as I'm fishing.

How do you target them off the pier. I’ve been trying to get my kayak to the coast and get beyond the breakers with it but that hasn’t worked out yet. Took it in may but terrible surf and a sorry brother in law stopped me then.

We use slider rigs, anchor rod plus bait rod. Find a pier that allows king fishing and watch what they do.

There are toothy critters out there bigger than your kayak.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I've shark fished as long as I've king fished.

The parking situations at Cherry Grove and Apache suck. End of rant....
