So, years ago there was a class action lawsuit against Starkist Tuna. We actually eat a fair amount of it and my wife sent in the little card to get a $50 voucher to use on Starkist.

We just got a cash settlement via Paypal - $2.38. That's right. $2.38.

I'd love to know what the attorneys made in this.

I found that same amount in my PP account this morning. Think I’ll buy a new gun. o_O

not a bad cut, near 25%

The appeals court also ruled on the fairness of proposed attorneys’ fees. The fairness of the voucher settlement was used to contest the attorneys’ fees but it was determined that class counsel awards cannot be determined based on the value of the vouchers because it is highly unlikely that every voucher will be redeemed.

Class counsel was awarded $3.6 million, but the amount was reduced by $154,987 to cover objectors’ counsel fees and costs.

I expect the same thing will happen with that credit breach settlement. $2.00 for everyone. Sorry we gave away your details...

This is whey I never bother to fill those things out. My name on their list is a lot more valuable to them than the $2 is to me, so F ‘em.

That's roughly two cans of free tuna plus tax... Basically a smidge of what they stole from you over the years... Charlie is laughing his fins off right now...

I don't remember what I did. I think I filled it out... Haven't seen anything yet.

Wife got an e-mail also. I didn't know about the suit, so I told her not to click until I checked that it wasn't a phishing scam. In their security notes , PayPal states outright that any e-mail from them will contain the addressee's full name. Hers did not. Foopid stuckers!

Sorry Charlie ;)

Well... there's a bright spot in my day. Justice, American style!

Not worth the time to fill out the paperwork, even on line. Last CAL that I got any real money from was Remington 1100 shotgun bbls. I had 3 at the time. $50 each.

I despise the concept of class-action lawsuits

for exactly that reason. It's nothing more than a BS way lawyers cooked up with to make more money.

I thought this was going to be a joke about your old lady. I’m a little disappointed.

I netted like $10 from the diamond class action several years ago. Down from a proposed $1000-$1500. Attorneys netted like $200M or so.

Please, someone show me proof of a mass class action settlement that actually benefited the consumer in any substantial financial amount.

Show me that, and I’ll show you a unicorn. Class action suits are for attorneys, not plaintiffs. But, you already know that.

Wonder if I qualify for a chunk of the settlement because of that girl I dated in '92?

I think it’s too late to file a claim for tuna you ate in 1992. ;)

In my early days in the Florida Keys, I went fishing with some deep sea guys. I was a total newb.
We caught a bunch of blue fin tuna, ranging from 14" on up. I thought this is awesome I like me some tuna. :)
They all laughed and said no...this is not for eating, this is the bait.
Bait for what?

Marlin and sailfish! Release the hounds!
One of the guys did manage to land a small marlin, around 200lbs. Whereupon they took a bunch of measurements and pictures, and let it go.
They were thrilled, but I couldn't help but think what a waste of good tuna.

While I understand the idea behind all of this (and dont participate in CAL), I will say - if you bought the product, enjoyed it, and then got some cash back at a later date - not bad.
That'll buy you two McChickens or something lol

I do a thing where I post my school stuff for sale (things Ive created for my classroom, video guides and such), and some months the payout is like 1.58 or something ridiculous. But I still smile cause I didnt have that money before.
Then, of course, some months, like August, was 92.50, that was awesome. That bought some car parts lol
