Congratulations to Smok3y who was our winner for Aug/Sept and he will be posting a new target soon! Hope he picks something that will give the rest of us a chance to beat him!

Oh man, I just shot Marvin in the face. Why did you do that? Well, I didn't mean to do it. It was an accident...

Standard CFF Monthly Rimfire Benchrest Challenge Rules
- Target Size: Standard 8 1/2 x 11 paper
- Target distance: 50 yards
- Any shooting position you'd like
- Front rests, bipods, front/rear shooting bags, bunny ears, ... etc. are all ok.
- No full length rifle mechanical rail/sled type rests allowed
- Iron sights or optics of your choice are all allowed
- All done on the honor system. Shoot it, score it, post it.
- Winner chooses the target and challenge for the next month.
- Post copy of your target, setup, where shot, and score

Scoring:
1) Shoot at the shapes with point values identified.
2) First hit gives you the point value in the shape.
3) All additional hits in a shape subtract that value from your score.
4) Hits that do not touch any shapes are -35 points (negative).
5) If a shot touches multiple shapes, it counts as a hit on both shapes, positive or negative depending on how many times you have hit the shape.
6) You do NOT have to shoot at every shape if you choose not to. Stop when you feel like it.

Tie Breaker:
1) Fewest number of shots
2) If necessary, cheapest price (per round) of the going rate for the ammo used, based on whatever site we can find with any ammo used by those that end in a tie. We'll start with Outdoor Limited, then Brownell's, then Midway, and hope we're done by then.

I found this on a target site (Airgunsmith.com), and it was upside down, so I didn't even see a face. My wife noticed that before she helped us clean it up some. Hopefully, some of you get the Marvin quote. It is a funny quote that I say a lot, and when my wife asked me what to name it, I immediately said Marvin. She said, I shot Marvin in the face.

Enjoy!

There you go all. I hope you enjoy. Less rules to clarify than the last one. I didn't really want to shoot that many times, but it was hard to get it lower than 20 and keep the face and a variety.

I have a target! 460 points total. 3 negatives of 35 each. It was fun! I shot my CZ 455, Athlon Helos BTR 6-24×50, bipod on front, bag in rear, Geco Match 22.
Will you clarify the -35 near the black circle with red center dot?

The black circle is 75 and the red dot is 100. Is the white area in the middle considered “not a shape” and that’s where the -35 comes from? Or did both of them not nick the 100, so it would’ve been a -100 instead? (Maybe one hits the 100, and the other is completely in the white?)

One shot nicked the top of the 100, the lower shot is in white so I subtracted 35. I think that's what I was supposed to do.

Nice shooting!!! Giving us a goal right off the bat.

You did not make it easy on us. I can’t wait for an open weekend.

I tried this target with my Savage too! I had 6 negative scores and ended up with a total score of 20! So, I was on both ends of the score board.

Nice! That is a wide range! I’m glad you posted that as well, for the people that may not want to post lower scores. It is all fun here.

Well I've never done one of these before and my scope only going to 15x makes it pretty hard to see the smaller shapes at 50yards... I'm going to blame some of my wonky hits on the wind ;-)

I hope I scored it right. I think I got a 150.

Nice shooting HH. You are right about low power on the smaller shapes. I have tried some of these with my 4-16 scope and haven’t had as good of luck.

It appears your score may be low. I count two more 50’s. I only see one listed in your count, but it appears you hit the mustache (long 50) and then hit both 50’s under the mouth. You get positive points for the first hit and take negative for the additional hits. I assume you gave yourself a negative because you hit the bottom one twice? Is that 3 shots?

Tell us about your rifle and setup. Glad to have your shooting with us.

I like it! Great to have another shooter! I think the 2 hits on the lower fifty's would be worth 50 points each. Counting 1 for each shape.

Smok3y, the bottom is two shots. I took 50 off because I think I hit the top one with each shot, but now that I look at it I may have forgotten to give myself 50 for the bottom? I don't know... the scoring is confusing for a new guy! Haha

As for the rifle, I posted a lengthy intro in the welcome section. It's a CZ455 TACTICOOL with a Athlon Ares BTR 2.5-15x50

So are you saying I should have given myself 50x2 for those and not subtracted anything since it was only 2 shots? I admit I don't fully understand the scoring.

That is what it looks like to me 50+50, unless That bottom shot hit both targets, and so the top one was hit twice, but it doesn’t look like it to me. Then it would be 50+50-50 if one of them was hit twice. Either way, you definitely hit both as well as the 3rd 50, so you at least have 100 more points.

I always like seeing CZs. I’ll be shooting with one as well. Hope that Ares is working out for you. I really liked the 4.5-27 I had.

It's not like we're playing to win a Cadillac! Give yourself 50 for each of the 2 bottom hits, I think it looks like the lower hit didn't break the line of the upper shape.

Ok so updated score is 300 if the bottom two count and I'm not docking myself 50 for overlap.

Thanks for the input!

This submission does not count, as it does not meet the requirements, but I had to test out my new air rifle to see how good it can be.

This is an FX Impact in .30 caliber, so it makes much larger holes than our 22lr holes. Managed to hit them all and didn’t miss. I am pretty excited, as this is the first time in any of our games that one of my air rifles has come close to any respectable score. I’ll shoot with the CZ at some point.

Shot this on Sunday, but just getting around to posting it now. Rainy and windy that morning, so I had several botched attempts until the rain and clouds passed. This was the pick of the litter.

Marlin 917V 17HMR
Mueller 8-25x44 optic
Hornady VMAX 17gr ammo
Front rest and rear bag

Double check my math... I came up with a 505
- Forgot to shoot the 10 point circle at the top, so no point or penalty
- Doubled up on the small 100 point circle, so -100
- Missed the 25 point circle on the bottom right, -35

Nice shooting brother!
I didn’t calculate the same as you, but I calculated higher. Question on the -100 you mentioned. Are there two shots on top of each other in that right 100 bull, or are you referring to the shot to the right in the middle ring? If it is the shot in the middle ring, it appeared to me that it only hit the empty, non point circle for -35. Are you saying it broke the 100 point inner circle? Either way, even if I count that as -100, I get 545 or 510 depending on how many shots were fired at the right 100 point bull.

Either way, great job!! New leader in the clubhouse upcoming!

I’m not seeing the -100. It looks like one hitting red for +100, one completely in the white, and one in the green for +75.

(I didn’t add up the rest)

I'll defer to the math wizards here. I ran out of fingers and toes tabulating my score.

There were just the two shots on the 100 point small circle. While I didn't break out the magnifying glass, it looked like a close nick to me, so I counted it as the -100. I'll concede to whatever the match director says on the matter.

I did find it hard keeping track of what I had shot at though. Those tiny .17 cal holes were hard to spot in overcast skies.

I was kind of going with the one hit on each of the 100's and subtracting 2 -35's for hitting white areas. I counted the target twice and came up with a score of 610 out of a possible 715! Please let me know if I counted something wrong. Either way, that is a great looking target! We finally have some competition for Smok3y!

Oh yeah...forgot it should be -35 for the one in the white ring.

So I’d say that one spot got a +100, +75, -35

I got 620. I need to recount.

ETA: 610 sounds right

I printed this out so hopefully will have enough time this month. Have not gotten much benchrest time in the last few months.

I understand. I’ve spent more time on my air rifles. I should have shot this yesterday instead of shooting the air rifle. I’m not sure when I’m gonna fit it in.

Well I shot the target today. Lets just say I do not want to "disgust" it. BAD!

No pics. The trash can now has it.

Where's all our shooters and pictures of targets? It was a great weekend for shooting, someone had to give it a try!

Well, I went out today to see if I could fit a round in, and thought I had it, so I didn’t bother with another sheet. The bipod rail must be a slightly wider on this rifle than my Impact, because I couldn’t lock it without adjusting it. I thought it would be ok, so I didn’t adjust it, but you can see the shots at the bottom started drifting left. I think it was because the bipod had come loose and gotten wobbly.

Same CZ 455 as usual (painted)
22lr - Eley Black
Sightron 10-50
Accutac bipod (it will be locked in next time!)
Rear bean bag

3 (-35) shots left me at 610, but the tie goes to nbkky71. Not sure I can get back out there, but I’ll have to try. If I can clean it with the air rifle, I know I can with this rifle.
