I wonder if CD's will ever experience the rebirth vinyl has? As the years go on there will be less and less of them- they're really more fragile than vinyl, and with even cassette tapes coming back in certain genres, I have to believe at some point in the future someone will appreciate them.

I was ripping some from my collection to a HD last night and stopped to appreciate that my oldest CD is 28 years old. It was the first one I ever bought and I remember saving up for it from my allowance. I didn't even have a CD player at the time, I had to sit in our closed-in garage and use my dad's when I wanted to listen to it.

As I was going through these albums from mostly small-time bands no one remembers, I couldn't help pull out the inserts and marvel over the amount of work that went into the art, and the fact that most albums had lyrics with them- something that is missing and can be annoying with digital downloads, especially with smaller musicians whose lyrics aren't plastered all over the internet.

Lots of people are dumping CD's. I still love them, and I'm holding onto mine.

I'd bet some of you older than me can express some of the same sentiments about the switch from records to cassettes.

I used to have quite the collection. Dumped them at Goodwill at the end of 2017. Nice tax deduction. Kept maybe 50 or so that would’ve been tough to replace.

Those shelves are now full of ammo and reloading supplies in a different part of the house.

still have hundreds of them
I dont think they'll have the resurgence of vinyl

I was a radio station DJ for a while in the late 80s &a early 90s. One of the benefits was being able to take home promo copies of the new CDs being promoted by the record companies. I haven't kept all of them over the years, but I'm going to keep hanging onto the good ones. The only problem is that most computers today are sold without an optical drive, while can make ripping a challenge of you don't have an external USB drive.

Love my CDs, for sure.

I have a bunch, but they do deteriorate over time.

I have them backed up to an old raid array, about 5TB

Gotta weed through some of my collection..around 1k, prolly 600 "silvers" rest live stuff from friends and trades. All silvers ripped to flac on nas. Never will drop those though. Still have 1st disc too...Nevermind..original press of 50k missing the hidden track, bought in early 1992.

Still have all my DATs tooo..my tascam da20mk2 runs like a boss.

Just got done transferring some cassettes too..had to buy a "new" decck..Nakamichi Dr2 on fleabay..perfect shape 110 out the door.

Vinyl..somewhere we have my wifes technics player.. somewhere... prolly should makesure it works.

Itll come back around.retro is cool.

I've got cds from the dawn of the technology. Never had one go bad. Probably have 3000. Starting to buy box sets that are paper sleeves in a paper box. Take up much less space than "jewel boxes". Lots of 70's 80's rock out on these paper box sets now. Buy while you still can if u want them. Amazon.

Thought about those boxes and sleeves too.. know a lot of folks that went that route over the years. It's a good idea if you have a huge collection. Moving 1000's of discs in jewel cases is a PITA. I've down-sized my collection 2x before due to moving. LOL.
