Last Friday morning I got a call from a lady asking about renting some oxygen. I was explaining about all of the documentation we would need to dispense O2, blah, blah, blah. Then she said that she wouldn't need it for very long, it was for some premature puppies.

Well, now she had my attention. She worked with a veterinarian but these were her dogs. The female had a puppy die before birth and she aborted the whole litter of four. One was dead, one died right after birth, a female was struggling, and a male was in a little better condition than the female. She had an incubator and was taking the pups home for the weekend. She was afraid the little girl would not make it. She said if she could get her to make it through the weekend she thought she would be able to make it.

I gave her an O2 cylinder, a regulator, and tubing to connect it to the incubator. She wanted to know the cost and I told her it was on me. I thought about these dogs all weekend. Monday morning I texted the lady and asked how the pups did over the weekend. She said they had a rough Friday night and Saturday morning. She had to give them O2 several times as their breathing was labored and they were turning purple. But Saturday afternoon they started improving. She said that she hadn't had to give them O2 since 6PM on Sunday. She said she was convinced that the O2 saved their lives.

Today, she returned the O2 cylinder and brought the puppies in to meet me. They are only 8 days old and not much bigger than a mouse. They are both eating well, bottle fed, and are having normal bowel movements. They are pretty active and crawling around and they had good color to them. She was very appreciative and she thinks I'm a hero.

She gave me a very nice card and a $50 gift card. So, next week the office will have lunch on me. And, she named the little male puppy Larry. Some days are just better than others.

Edited to add that they are French Bulldogs. I'm not a big fan of the breed and these are sold for big bucks.

Larry is one of the best people I have ever met. I am proud to call him a friend. This doesn’t surprise me at all. However I also would rather eat rusty nails then cross him.
But you eat rusty nails for breakfast.

You made the world a better place, awesome work.

That's how it goes with mountain folks...

If they like ya, they'll do anything in the world for you.

If they don't like ya, they'll do anything in the world to you.

:)

Great story! Kudos to you sir.

Thanks for what you did for the little ones just starting out in life.

But you eat rusty nails for breakfast.

A fellow was trying to tell me how tough he was. He said, "I ate barbed wire and thought it was spaghetti."

I told him I ate barbed wire and knowed what it was.

Good on you, @Geezer! I feel honored to know you... today. Tomorrow is a new day, though.

You're a good man Charlie Brown. ;)

So, what's your take, when she auctions off the pups?

:D

I just saw this story. Wish I had known about this when I talk to you at the meet and greet. Are you a respiratory therapist? I was for 35 years. I was wondering where Billy got all those O 2 cylinders from

The lady texted me pictures of the 2 pups today. They looked like they had really grown a lot in a week and she said they were doing great. She said when they start walking around she would bring them by for another visit. I would post the pictures but they are on my work phone and...it's at work. Maybe Monday.

Not an RT but I've been doing this stuff for quite a while now. I can pretty much do it all, I just don't have the letters after my name. Leaky or otherwise unacceptable O2 cylinders make good handgun targets. They are tough and make a good sound when hit. Rifle rounds will poke a hole through them.
