You can date Bulgarian small arms, with a few exceptions, by taking the two digits that come after the letters on the serial number and adding them to the year 1960. In the PKM's case that is 1960 + 47 = 2007. As to why 1960? I don't know for sure, but suspect it is related to the name change from "Factory 10" to "United Industrial Plant Fredrich Engles" in that year. Since 1999 it is known as "Arsenal JSCo." Regards

Since I started out with Makarovs that is mostly what I know. For years collectors in that area knew about the dating method. I just happened to notice that it work with the Arsenal AKs and other items put out by them as well. Cheers

Hey now - nothing wrong with modern! Ever seen the AK-12? But agreed ... Crapco has never belonged on any sort of authentic AK whatsoever.
