Your latest alcohol purchase

Good job!

In the top 3 of the contenders for best I ever had.

Pure dumb luck. Was on my way to Uwharrie camping and my friend was ahead of me. He called and asked how far I was from the Ramsuer ABC. I was 3.5 minutes away. I grabbed the last one on the shelf.

Crack that single barrel open and tell us how it is. The one we picked was pretty dang delicious.

Hmmm.... I don't know... It's not what I would call smooth. Not for drinking neat. Opened up a bit with a cube of ice after a quick melt. Still quite harsh up front. Don't know how old it is but it tastes young. The nose is wonderful. The taste not as much. It's the usual vanilla, burnt caramel/toffee flavors. Not super sweet. Long burn. A little nutty.

I'm not wowed...

Good to know. I am not a fan of the "harsh, burns all the way down" whiskeys.

was told this is decent stuff.... I reckon I will find out. Any of yall drank it?View attachment 161776

Got some sittin on the shelf, but I have too many open bottles right now. Haven't gotten around to trying it yet.
Let us know what you think!

Stopped in local ABC (Apex) today. Nothing special:(

I picked up some Knob. It is my go to.

Went and helped a forum member new to my area move some heavy stuff around at his new place.
I went in good faith, because it was the right thing to do, expecting nothing for my efforts...but he felt it necessary to pay me with this. Not bad for about an hours work lol.
We have some mighty fine, mighty generous people round here...

Ive never seen one in my local ABC stores...and tonight was the first sip of it Ive ever had.
Immediately went in my top 5 lol

Our local podunk ABC had several bottles on the shelf.

Just grabbed a bottle of Russell's Reserve Single Barrel to take down to Conway.

Twas a good week for acquiring, thanks to much help from my friends.

Wasn't a bad week for drinking either, but that's another thread.

The two small (375ml) bottles of Buffalo Trace means I've got three sizes now. If I can ever find some airplane bottles then I should have all 4.

Nothing to write home about but I stopped in Costco while heading to Battery Oaks and got a bottle of Basil Hayden and Longbranch. The only reason I bought them was that they were over $7.00 cheaper than here in Savannah.

I wasn't too impressed by the Basil, but that Longbranch was surprisingly good to me

Stopped back by the liquor store because they said they would be getting some more in today and they did but could not pull the trigger.
Both of these were the annual bottles/batches that companies bring out. One was from Whistle Pig (some like pit master) for $500 and the other was from Wild Turkey and it was $165. If it was a Pappy or Stagg I might have thought about it.

I picked up a bottle of Bulleit Barrel Proof today. I might do a side by side tasting of various barrel strength/cask strength bourbon's soon.

Tasting notes.

ECBP 122.2 proof:

Smooth start and a medium mellow finish. You can tell it is barrel strength for sure but not a harsh alcohol burn.

Bulleit 125 proof:

Wow that's a big bourbon. Nice orange notes on the front end but as soon as it leaves your palate the burn kicks in. It's a burner. It might mellow out a bit as it breathes.

New Riff 112 proof:

Of the five this was the sweetest on the nose. I've been nursing this bottle along for a couple months. It makes a damn fine old fashioned. A mellow start with a big alcohol burn in the middle and a lingering taste of nutmeg or cinnamon on the end.

Old Ezra 7 114 proof:

This one is a complex flavor bomb and never disappoints. Oaky citrussy spiciness that builds gradually to alcohol heat and then tames back to oaky spiciness. I need to acquire another bottle of this when I'm in Tennessee later this year.

Jefferson's Ocean cask strength voyage 18 112 proof.

This may be the smoothest of the lot. A nice blend of spicy flavors, oak, and a touch of vanilla. Alcohol heat but not a big intense burn. Builds slowly and dissipates gradually.
