Does anyone here have first hand experience with this 2-part Shooter Lube I'm seeing advertised everywhere online lately? Good stuff? Don't bother?

I've used it occasionally off and on for about a year.
Is it better than the "old reliables"? Yes. A little.
Is it worth the price differential? No.
YMMV.

Sounds like frog lube all over again.

I use this stuff, made by a company that specializes in industrial/commercial rust prevention products. It's about the best there is in that respect. It works as a mild cleaner as well, really seems to get under and lift off the crud. Doesn't remove copper though.

I have yet to find anything that is really worth paying more for when Ballistol and Hoppes is as effective as it is. Weaponshield worked great...FrogLube wasn't terrible (just a pain)...and even RemOil worked fine (just didn't last long).

The main thing I have learned over the years isn't WHAT you use, its that you use it at all.

I’ve used a bunch of stuff. From motor oil to frog lube. All worked just fine. Right now I’m using alg defense go juice oil and their very thin grease. I really like them. But hey. Use what you want.

Pretty much any light oil is going to lube up your guns just fine. A lot of guys use synthetic motor oil. A bottle will probably last a lifetime for most shooters. If it can handle the heat and stress of a race car engine, its going to lube up a glock or AR just fine.

I clean with Hoppes, and I oil my guns with weaponshield. Weapon shield seems to be a little better than remoil and breakfree as a lube, and it smells a whole heck of a lot better.

Froglube is just coconut oil dyed green. You can get it in the grocery section of Walmart a whole lot cheaper than buying the branded product they sell at gun shows.

Virtually every new snake oil makes a big deal about "bonding" molecularly or otherwise with the metal, which I think is total BS. A metallurgy engineer has stated so in another forum. Heck most firearms are blued or melonited, etc. so the surface is not even metal. Kind of like trying to oil your varnished wood table, lol.

Have tried many. I use:
Mobil 1 for lube

Eno's slide glide for rails and lugs on pistols.

Eeezox for deep cleaning and rust prevention occasionally, although you could probably do it all with this stuff..

If mine starts to runs dry, I just spit on it.;)
I have used the dip stick from my car before.
Up and running.

Homebrew

2 parts Mobil 1 10w30
2 parts Castrol Transmax Dex 6
1 part Mobil 1 75-90 gear oil

Got about 1 1/2 gallons mixed up...figure I'll be dead fore that jug's empty.

What logic, pray tell, is behind that particular formula, or is it just what was laying around in the garage? :D

The way I see it, there seems to be little noticeable (or even measureable by us laymen) difference in lubricity, but rust/corrosion protection is easily demonstrated by relatively simple tests and CorrosionX is consistently at or among the top performers.

I’ve been using CorrosionX to wipe down guns stored in the safe (inside barrels and chambers too). I actually didn’t realize they make a dedicated gun lubricant. I suppose the major difference would be a lighter viscosity?

I've never used the base product but this is a light oil. In a clear vial it looks dark and colorless, but light and clear by the drop.

Lucas makes some gun oil. Got some and it works. So does most everything else. If you got some extra walking around money, buy whatever you want. Use it. Report back. Im sure it's good.

Can't argue with synthetic motor oil though. If it'll lube, clean, and protect an engine it will have no problem at all on a firearm.

For a pistol that I carry, I like to use something that will stick like grease. Militech makes a good gun grease. Might want to check it out.

Old Engineering Lore applicable to firearms:

  • If it rotates, oil it
  • If it slides, grease it

My kit includes:

OIL = Rem, Lucas, or Motor ( I always carry a can of Rem spray as well )

GREASE = Military M14 - M1 Garand Grease ( from the gun show surplus vendors.... Works wonders on a handgun slide... )

CLEANER = Brake Cleaner, Hoppes, Ballistol

I also started carrying and using a tub of the Hoppes "wipes". They are great for a quick clean-up at the range.

I clean pretty often, so I'm less particular about what I use -- it doesn't have to last long. :)
(I'm with @B00ger and @Hashknife !)

Cleaner: CLP or Hoppes
Oil: whichever gun oil I grab first
Grease: Lubriplate
I doubt I ever run out of all the stuff I've already accumulated, so little will ever change.

The M14 - M1 Garand grease is actually a Lubriplate formula/product.

Lubriplate works very well!

CorrosionX AND Eezox for
rust/corrosion prevention.
Long term storage RIG in bores
Lucas Gun grease

FWIW;
The US NAVY uses CorrosionX on its
Phalanx Gun system!!
I’ve used it for a dozen years and have yet to see it fail... fantastic stuff but pricier than 12 year single Malt Scotch!!

I race RC sailboats, occasionally in salt water with real wind and chop; you can imagine in that environment how important corrosion protection might be to receiver, battery and servo connections, and I became well familiar with Corrosion-X; it's awesome. Use it on guns too, more for protection than lube. I had an opportunity to talk to a representative from Corrosion-X, and I asked him how their gun oil product differed from the general spray can stuff. He said it is the same stuff, just packaged differently - so buy whatever package suits you. I apply a drop to all connectors at least once a year and (touch wood) have not had any electrical failures.

That's awesome about the sailboats, I'd like to see that one day. I prefer the aerial variety, but a boat would come in handy when I stuff a float plane in the lake, lol.

I recommend Lucas Oil's marine Grease. Comes in a big 14 ounce tube upload_2019-10-31_8-14-40.png at Lowes Home Improvement for like 7 bucks. I use it for any shiny metal rub areas on firearms and on the rails. I use those big Q-Tip like gun cleaning swabs as an applicator and break one in half and shove in the tube and put the cap back on. I can tell you i shoot quite a bit more than average and it makes a difference on the wear of the gun. I have a Legion P229, one of the early ones people whine about the finish wearing off, that looks used sure, but doesn't look like it has 15,000 rounds through it which it does. I have seen other legions that look much much worse with far fewer round counts. That tube will last you years and years. There some guy on the internet who looked at all the grease and found that this particular grease is the same Lucas grease you buy in a little tube for 12 bucks...

Thanks for the heads up. What about their oil? 5th wheel and slider lube maybe?

I use Rem oil for oil, it is available everywhere and i prefer a spray can for oil because it gets in the crevices. I spray the gun with oil then wipe it down, then grease the rails and shiny spots and reassemble. I like the idea of using synthetic motor oil except it isn't an aerosol. I don't spray the hell out of it with oil, so a big can lasts for many gun cleanings. I shoot mainly AR and semi auto pistols.

Not a fan on Rem oil. Back in the early 90s I trusted it to an old double barrel 12... it let me down. I got chewed out for that one. Big time. My stepdad didn't like rust on his passed down boomstick.

Since I've been out of the army and have worked with metal and in the automotive repair industry, I've moved to liking things made to protect metal more.

Maybe it has changed since the 90's. I always used Hoppes, but Rem oil it seems to be good now and you need a spray to get in the crevices. If you want to protect your gun from rust do not use oil. Use a Silicone cloth. The oil is for the internals. Oil dries up. It sucks for protecting guns exterior, especially if your like me and shoot in the rain and snow and whatever else is going on that day. A while ago, Remington made something called dry lube, you sprayed it and it turned white then disappeared. That stuff was awesome, it probably caused cancer or something because i haven't seen it in years. I sprayed several shot guns in an un airconditioned gun cabinet in Florida ( after i cleaned all the rust on them) and they stayed pristine in that cabinet for years.

Anyone using astroglide???

CLP or grease after Hoppes #9. Simple, cheap, effective and available everywhere....at least until WalMart bans it.

I was given some WeaponShield by the company owner way back on another forum. Was amazed at how much better it worked than anything else I had used. Been using it since.

I was given a bottle of green peppermint oil once too... It sucked... smelled nice though...

I’ve used weaponshield a lot and really like it. Of the “wonderlubes” it’s my favorite.
