Did You Go Shooting Today

Went to H20 today for some trigger time. @dmarbell and I ran the Wizard a few times. I was shooting a 1911 earlier in the day to warm up for Saturday’s IDPA match, but ran the Wizard cold with my G43 out of my pocket, and it was the first time I had shot that drill.

The gun did it’s part, and when I drew cleanly from my pocket holster I put rounds on target in the prescribed par time, but several times when I drew very fast, knowing I only had 2.5 seconds to do it all, I ended up presenting a firearm that still had a Galco Pro 800 pocket holster on it.

Drawing from the pocket requires proper manipulation, so while my shooting was fine, my draw was not.

Sat, more visitors from Germany that need to see what we really do with our guns 99.99% of the time!

Just home from shooting really pretty badly with the Glock. Did the Wizard, or the Wizard did me, I should say....he made me feel bad!
Shot him ok with the 1911 9mm. Ha! A little bit of revenge was had.

Teaching a live fire room clearing class today to troops. Last scheduled range before I come home on leave.

CD
Safe travels, CD.
And watch yer ass in the class.

Man on the Range right now moving 600 pound tires around . Making the range as "Contained" as I can.

On a completely different note, we are leaving at 2:30 to go to a wedding. It is followed by Supper and entertainment with a little band some of you may have heard of...Hootie and the Blowfish. I don't know much about the fish blowers but apparently we need to see them. [says the Bride]

I was raining at the outdoor range and really wanted to try the 300 BO with the can so went to the indoor range. Ran a few without the can @25 yards and they were dead center but 4 inches low. Was using a red dot sighted in at 50 yards. The put the can on and the POI shifted greatly left about 6 to 7 inches and up a couple. All grouped together. Would you adjust the red dot to the POI with the can?
When nobody was shooting I got to run about 10 rounds through it without ears and it was no problem. Before I left I asked the range master to record a few rounds and luckily nobody was shooting.

I went and did "paper Wizards" with the Sig p238, and the Springfield .45. It was a pretty bad showing with the Sig, but I did better with the .45, naturally, it being one of my beloved 1911s. I got all 5 shots and distances with that one....but only one time! It's a great gun to shoot, though. I shot about 150 rounds total today.

If I’d have known that in advance, I could’ve sent you a Hootie t-shirt from the 90’s to wear. I saw them several times before they got big, when they were selling their Kootchypop CD out of cardboard boxes on the side of the stage. :D

Tell Darius and the boys we said Hey.

I went yesterday and ran my problem.300 Black. Built it from parts a couple years ago and it ran like crap from day one. Double feed, no feed, misfires, no fires, changed mags, changed BCG and bolts, changed buffer springs and buffer, changed gas tube, gas blocks, you name it. I was going to part it out and I decided to change the barrel out. Runs like a sewing machine!!! Ran hand load subs through it suppressed and it ran sweet!

Went to FLD today to try out my first 50AE test loads. I had 5 different charge levels and all of them cycled the gun and locked the slide open. With the max charge, velocity was below published numbers and I saw no excess pressure signs, accuracy was good, so I’ve got a good load to go forward with. I shot a total of 15 rounds and my wrist was starting to complain.

I also took my Witness 10mm and shot 100 rounds in that. Had several misfeeds that I am pretty sure are mag related. I adjusted the feed lips and think I have the problem solved.

Put 30 rounds through the 10mm R1 Hunter. Having some fail to return to battery issues. Internet gurus say it needs a heavier recoil spring. Very accurate though.

100 rounds through the S&W 3914DAO. Love the accuracy this thing has.

25 rounds through the 44 special GP100.

Yes, I did "paper Wizards", with mixed results. Did "kill" the Wiz with the RIA, didn't with the G19.

Shot about 120 rounds today.

Was in Sevierville, Pidgeon Forge, Gatlinburg yesterday and stopped by Buds Gun Shop and Range in Sevierville where my wife shot a handgun for the second time in her life. The first time was several months ago and she only shot 10 rounds but lost the fear she had of shooting guns so she was all for shooting again and we could rent a calibur and switch firearms as much as needed to find which she liked best. #1, she found the gun she liked shooting the best and #2, she outshot me the crap out of me. I am so proud of her, now we get to gun shopping for her. This is a very nice range, just as nice as TSA. Overall this rental was a few dollars cheaper than when I rented a calibur at TSA a while back, no video to watch and no range card to purchase. I wish I had the TSA cost to compare. If you are ever in the area give Buds a try and across the street is the most knives/blades in one building I have ever seen, Smoky Mountain Knife Works.

NOT!!!

Richard Vines our target maker and old bear tried the Wizard today..He's still alive! I Killed him just to show them that it could be done. Old Bear is in the Bunk House for 3 days visit and shooting. Always glad when somebody is using the Bunk House. All are anxious to try the Wizard tomorrow. Remember..the Only way to kill the Wizard is Cold, from Concealment and 2.5 seconds per stage. Other than that and you're just shooting "at" him. Still only 2 Wizard shirts given out.

Got my new dueling tree set up and broken in nicely....why i havent had bought one before me is insane. Best money ive spent on steel targets...so much fun to shoot.

I'm sure your shirts are safe from me. lol. I bet I know someone who could really kill the wiz, though.
PS Regards to Old Bear. You boys have fun!

Went today, first time since the m&g at Billy's. Shot the G-48, and my new to me Shield 9. Really need to step up my game over the winter. This year I have slipped pretty bad, but I had other things that took precedence. I'll get it back.

I haven't shot in 4 days anything due to pesky employment requiring my presence. Looking forward to sighting in hunting rifles on Sunday between the hours of 9:30AM and Noon since I can't hunt my own property during that island in time per NC law .

I installed a new EMT steel target stand with AR500 4" circle, 6" circle, and IDPA torso. Practiced my "Wizard" timing and tested out my five new mags (two Metalform, three Brownells), using my 115 gr range ammo plus some new stuff (Speer Lawman and Underwood Extreme Defense). All systems functioned flawlessly, except for the usual loose nut behind the wheel. It was a great day!

That same guy lives here too!!!
Yeah, he's crusty, opinionated, and anti-social, but over these many years I've grown quite accustomed to hanging out with him.

My son and I shot the P09, G19, and 1911 at steel. I am still working on my "Wizard" draw stroke, sight picture, and timing (kind of). I have noticed that I have more trouble getting a quick sight picture on the 6" circle than I do on the IDPA torso -- even though I'm double-tapping the torso. I have a better percentage of hits on the second torso shot at 10 yds than I do on the 6" at 5 or 7 yards. I'm stumped as to why, though I have a theory that I'm going to test tomorrow.

BTW, I love the P09 trigger and grip ergonomics.

Shot the southern defensive pistol league
Match IMG_20191102_110920050_HDR.jpg at Wilkes today. I screwed it up about as badly as one can but still enjoyed my self.
My early new year's resolution is to get back into a heavier schedule next year
Thanks to Steve Jones for being a great S.O. today, and our own @Ian McFinn for a soul crushing layout,

Ran to the range with the Walther/Colt Gold Cup 1911-22, 300 BO AR-pistol and the CZ 223. Was waiting for an empty range to shoot without ears for the 1911-22 and 300 BO. I was shooting 215 Missouri FP bullets in the 300 and having problems with them feeding. Out of 60 rounds I would guess I had 5 FTF. Going to shooting them up on the next trip. No problem with the Berry bullets. Ended the day on the 500 yard range with the CZ. Not rally a good day. Not sure if it was the shoulder, the wind blowing or just me.
When I got home I cleaned the Walther/Colt and with the adapter for the can that had to come off, I never realized how many parts were in that gun and that it had a sleeved barrel.
