Front tire?

Yessir!

If that is on the rear could still be worn out struts.

Is this something with 4 wheel steering?

It's a rear driver side tire. No four wheel steering. Shocks replaced two years ago.

Shocks can still be bad!

Caster issue, Camber issues?

I would go to a GOOD alignment shop and get a 4 wheel alignment done. That will give you armament togo back to tire dealer if necessary.

Make sure you get the readout of the settings before you leave.

Add rotate and balance them regularly.
We usually run Michelins, Yokomamaā€™s have performed well on our 8Klbs+ service vehicles.

If that wheel doesnā€™t have a TON of weights on it indicating an out of round tire, wheel or both (then shame on whoever just slapped tons of weight on and sent it out). Itā€™ll be something in the suspension is worn or out of spec causing that.

If it was a suspension-alignment issue, it should show up on multiple tires as they are rotated. If its only one tire.......its a tire or wheel issue.

Looks like a separated belt to me.Could have been from an impact (pothole, curb, etc)or be a manufacturer defect(very hard to prove).Tire is a blowout risk.I would recommend removing it immediately.

If the seller/installer won't address it then I would contact Yokohama directly.

That is not alignment and if it were a strut/shock issue you would have already been complaining about the ride.

^ or a really big pothole that you hit both tires on the same side of the car with. :D

bet that was a smooth ride

Noticed a road hum yesterday. Today it was a wobble.
Tire's off, but no one local stocks replacements in this size. I'm going to have someone I trust go over the suspension, but I think this is just a lemon. No odd wear on the other tires, and no warning or change in ride until this one gave up the ghost.

Belt separated in the tire itself. Just a bum tire.

I didn't see in the comments what sort of vehicle. From the wheel offset in the picture I would guess front wheel drive.
My experience has been that scalloping like that only comes from a bad shock or strut; possibly a really shot balljoint or control arm bushing. That is a sign of out of control wheel bounce. There are a lot of junk replacement parts out there, including a lot of 'good' brands that have become re-packagers of offshore parts.
Incorrect camber will wear the shoulder slick and eventually into the cords.
Incorrect toe can also wear the shoulder, but on the rear of a FWD vehicle the toe usually feathers or washboards the tread blocks, not deep scallops across the entire tread like you have.
Caster does apply to rear wheels.

It's FWD.
Visually, nothing looks off. I've tried the "push test" where you apply downward pressure on each wheel and see if one bounces back differently, but they all appear the same. Can't visually see a bend or warp. Shocks seem to still be good.
But, my experience is limited, so it's definitely going to a garage.

Per mechanic, bum tire.
Nothing wrong with rear end. Never had a tire fail this spectacularly.

TireRack is where I got them. They're taking the bad one back to "examine" it before they honor the warranty.

So something stinks here.

Tire Rack says their "inspector" deemed this cupping wear caused by poor alignment. No refund or road hazard credit.

Mechanic says rear end is fine, and rear end doesn't even have adjustment unless you want to shim it. He said there's a slight negative camber, but it's within spec.

Someone's wrong.

Yeah they are screwing you over. Older tire ok. New tire like that not ok. Reach out on social media that always seems to get results these days as they want the online smear...........

Any shop worth their salt will tell you thats a separated belt.
