The dumber part about this is that kids don't know what their political beliefs are. They haven't had to deal with the real world yet, they're not fully independent, still reliant upon mom & dad, often haven't dealt with working all week only to see 25% of your money go to taxes, probably don't understand the implications of what these politicians spout on the news, etc.

Frankly, the same can be said for a lot of adults, but it's almost universal with kids, therefore her little exercise only serves to single people out and create an unhealthy classroom environment.

I'm not sure what the purpose of this could have been seeing she was a Spanish teacher. I know in civics class in high school my teacher did something similar but randomly handed out positions on paper then made us group together.

Not enough details to form an opinion. If the segregation was a part of some kind of lesson I don't see a problem. If it was done to shame a particular group... big problem. If the teacher went on to discriminate against a group... you know.

Maybe she was doing a class demonstration on the Catalan Independence issue...

Maybe Spanish class has changed since I was in high school...it was just language and not about Spain. o_O Obviously I didn’t learn it very well as I still think “si” is the third letter of the alphabet! :D

Everything is political these days... Never miss an opportunity to indoctrinate the little ones...

I know right? I've always wanted to be suspended with pay...
My pay got suspended.

Lopp, according to the news station, was hired as a substitute teacher with the school district on Aug. 12 and on Aug. 26 was hired as a Spanish teacher at the high school.

She made it 14 whole days! Seriously, though, I wonder what her reason was. Classroom exercise? Her personal bias? were two or more factions of students fighting?disruptive and this was her idea of a solution? @J R Green is right: not enough info to make a judgement call.

Spanish class? Eh, seems ridiculous.

Like @J R Green stated, I'd like more information, but it seems quite damning for a Spanish class.

Psychology or Sociology class - sure (ONLY FOR THE LESSON/DEBATE!), or Civics maybe to have a good debate. But Spanish?... nah.

Well....maybe the teacher will learn a lesson. Stick to what it is you are teaching......leave the BS out of it.
