I probably have more mags than I need but looking for innovative ways store etc... was keeping them in safes but that just does not scale.

These are all loaded, I think when I counted them it was 4700 rnds

I keep mine in a few different places:

AR Magazines for social work:
2 in a Battle Belt I put together for cheap, 2 AR mags, 2 spare pistol mags.
6 in a USGI surplus GI magazine bandolier

Reason being, I can grab the battle belt and the bandolier and have 300 rounds on me in a matter of moments. (Disclaimer: I am not expecting to ever be in a firefight where I would need 300 rounds...but meh...its easy)

AK magazines I just keep loaded in a 50cal ammo can
Pistol Mags: I keep most of my pistols in carrying cases that have pouches for magazines.

Kinda personal preference ... I’ve use plain old milk crates. The weight to transport needs to be maintained especially loaded mags and a milk crate full is pretty manageable with its handles and you can stack crates easy and carry a couple if needed. They don’t catch a bunch of trash and are easy to clean. I’ve even used them from makeshift seats, gun rests, etc.

Like others said I don’t keep a huge number of loaded mags all the time. I do have a mag carrier ready to grab along with mags tucked away for my HD carbine (and handgun) through out the house just in case ... but most are store in the basement workshop.

Old filing cabinets work good for ammo storage.
I found a horizontal model that's built like a tank. In good shape, $25 at Goodwill.
I could tell it was from a doctors office, but no key. So I contact the mfg. (Hon) for a key. $7.00
For curious I looked up on their site what this thing cost new.
$575
 For a filing cabinet?
Thrift stores are my first stop for storage solutions like this.

I use Rubbermaid style tubs with removable lids.
They have those now with a foam rubber o-ring in the lid that keeps moisture out. Cheap too. I have two that I use to keep holsters, pistol cases and such. I still throw some desiccant packs in there but they work good.

I only keep a few mags loaded and in the safe with their respective firearms. All my mags are stored in labeled pouches, placed in plastic moving totes

I can't imagine an enemy (zombies, terrorists, etc) attacking in such force where I'd need immediate access to 4700 rounds, but I commend your readiness :D

Thanks for all the replies. I have a HSGI Taco that holds three ar mags, I'll use that with plate carrier for dead of nite. Going to go with milk crates for the rest.

I did a carbine class a couple months ago, so I loaded all the rifle mags needed for that then ended up just loading all of them. I started shooting in early 2013 when prices were a lot higher. Now that ammo is less expensive I am trying to get as much as I can. Getting AR mags out of the safe will clear enough space to put 6 more 50 cal ammo cans in there. All ammo cans are full with loose rounds

Working mags (.i.e. loaded) are in an old surplus radio battery bag, compartmentalized for each caliber/firearm used for defense purposes (i.e. no .22LR mags); typically about 60-100 rounds per firearm. Stored in the safe with all the defense firearms, except my pistol mags, stored in my go bag.

Blasphemy :p You can never have too many!

I have a few of these 27-gallon HDX-branded totes holding quite a few loaded and empty mags in the basement. They're cheap, stack well, and hold quite a bit of weight without the bottom crapping out.

For long-term storage, which includes about 97% of my surplus magazines, I also have them individually sealed in VCI bags.

Nice bakelite collection, by the way!

I throw them here and there... some loaded, some partially loaded, some empty... on tables, in drawers, on shelves in and around my safes... even have one in my pocket...

I reminded by this thread of the joke that a portion of goes, "what are you afraid of?" Answer, "not a damn thing!"
