The best “chain restaurant” fried chicken in the Carolinas?

Totally agree.
Back in the 70s and 80s they were THE fried chicken chain.
Then either we got better choices or KFC changed something to where they are, as mentioned, greasy and bland.
Then they started putting clowns in their tv commercial for Colonel Sanders and ruined his name.
KFC just fell apart, kind of like Sears.
THis is what happened. Same a McDonalds.

KFC Changes Cooking Oil

Yum Brands Inc., which owns the Kentucky Fried Chicken chain, announced today that it will start cooking its famous fried chicken with a new type of cooking oil called "low-linolenic soybean oil"

The oil is produced by a company called Qualisoy, who last year, struck a deal with Kellogg's to provide the same oil for many of its products.

The new oil will eliminate the presence of trans-fat from KFC's chicken.

Qualisoy went on to say that this deal could raise the current market value of soybean commodities by an additional $100 million.

The move by KFC comes after a new law was passed in New York City banning the use of trans-fat in restaurant food. Many other NYC restaurants complained that the switch from trans-fat would not be easy.

KFC has also been under heavy assault from animal rights groups, including celebrities, for "chicken atrocities", which probably factors into their quick move towards seeking popular approval.

Now they say they are going back but I didn't see mention of the oil. The oil is the ballgame.

There's one here in Henderson,NC. Funny thing is that I have never tried the fried chicken. I ate there last week and their special was fried pork chops. Very good, included two sides, homemade biscuit and drink. Fresh collards and candied yams. Now gotta try the chicken

I’m going with Smithfield’s. When my first wife was pregnant with our son she craved two things: Fried chicken and A1 Sauce. I shudder to think how many birds gave their lives for that woman in a nine month span. We were on a first name basis with all the shifts at our local Smithfield’s.

A place that has great fried chicken and has not been mentioned is Hurseys BBQ.
I was very surprised at how good the chicken is.
Try it some time.

I’ll try their chicken. The bbq sucks lol

At one time we had an employee in my office who would buy a giant tray of Golden Skillet chicken every Christmas for our office party.

Good times. When I was a kid I didn't know Golden Skillet was a chain; I just thought it was a place in Plymouth with a sign that looked like a frying pan.

Not really a chain, I can’t think of any chain that has good chicken, but in Florence there is a handful of Raceway convenience stores that has the 1 meat and 2 sides to go lunches. The fried chicken and pork chops can’t be beat.

When I was a kid in Burlington, If Grandmomma didn't fry it, Golden Skillet did! I didn't know they were still around and I NEVER knew they served anything but CHICKEN!
