We have a thread for good restaurants.
We have a thread for the best fried chicken.
Both great threads!
It seems that we like our food here at CFF. Nothing wrong with that.

I'd like this thread for letting other members know of something you purchased that was really good (surprisingly so). This can be a specific sandwich at an an otherwise dive, etc.

What prompted this thread was I tried the Smokey BBQ sandwich at Subway. I loved it. I urge all who like BBQ brisket to give it a shot. Subway may or may not be on your "to go" list but if a great BBQ brisket sandwich stirs your innards then you should try one.

Any other great dishes at mainstream or back woods restaurants? Let us know.

S&S Grill in Thomasville during the fall and winter Chicken Stew Thursday with a grilled cheese. They also do a pimento cheese and chili cheeseburger that’s hard to beat.

I don't necessarily consider drive-through/fast food places restaurants. They are a convenience when pressed for time. I feel the same way about the commisary kitchen/national chains. When you are in a strange place, you at least know what you are going to get.

I cook and have knowledge of the industry. When I go out, I am looking for something special. The very best of an ethnic or regional cuisine. Yes, they can be holes in the wall and not fine dining.

All that said, the Green Papaya salad at Basil Leaf Cafe in Winston-Salem is to die for. Their green curry is good too.

Oh, I re-read that title: "fast-food or sit-down"

So after starting to go through all the possibilities, I finally decided...

that I am now hungry. Thanks a lot!

Bonzer wings and fried grits at the Bonzer Shack in Kill Devil Hills. Holy crap, amazing!!!

1st time I have been blown away by any food in a long while. Was there on a work trip this past weekend and finally got to try what I have heard so much about. I want to get a job there just to steal the recipes for both of them.

Edit to add: apparently it is a smoked gouda grit cake, amazing, wasn't even hungry but could not stop eating it.

Wings are a sweet/heat style. Could tell the sauce was honey based but had a good heat, almost reminded me of jerk seasoning. Next time I get up there I will get sauce on the side and I will be able to recreate it.

I can't stop thinking about both of these. So tempted to drive over 7hrs round trip just to go there.

I and family found an awesome Thai/Vietnamese restaurant uptown Winston they have some of the best pho I've run into. The place is called DowntownThai & Pho
I was recently introduced to pho ( pronounced pha) by a friend of mine.
Theirs a couple of good Vietnamese restaurant on 70 right before the Newton cut off, the one called Bangkok pho has a seafood pho that is excellent.

Thai Basil Chicken at Red Bowl.

I don’t eat out that much. I’d much prefer to cook my own food. Wings are probably my most common cook.

As someone who has eaten authentic gyros for 50+ years, I can say that Arbys does a great
job with their gyros. Order it with extra sauce.
They have the spices down!
I even get that subtle garlic burp that I always got from the real thing.
If you like gyros, it's as good as it gets for fast food.

I had one for lunch today, and Arby’s gyros are absolutely amazing. Hands down the best thing at a fast food restaurant.

And for a sit-down restaurant, Husk does fried chicken skins with a pimento cheese ranch dressing as an appetizer some nights. It is one of the best things I’ve ever put in my mouth.

Bbq shrimp and grits at the Bennet Hotel in Charleston was the most recent meal that got my attention.

We've been going there for years. Their salsa verde is to die for & great food. When I walk in, either the owner or his wife will holler, "hey Carlito, how many?", as they're grabbin' me a Negra Modelo outta the cooler.

I love food, so picking a favorite is tough, but nothing beats good onion rings.

Ma’am, you’re clearly a foodie.
What are some of your suggestions for high and low brow good food experiences in the Apex/Cary/Raleigh/Durham/Sanford area?

We go out a lot to try new things and discover new dishes to cook at home. Always looking for something interesting.

To answer the question asked, difficult to say for sure, but the Empanada's at Otro Plato in Louisburg, and the Drunken Noodles or Kra Prow at Thai Cafe in Wake Forest are pretty high on my list.
