Most students who committed deadly school attacks over the past decade were badly bullied, had a history of disciplinary trouble and their behavior concerned others but was never reported, according to a U.S. Secret Service study released Thursday.

In at least four cases, attackers wanted to emulate other school shootings, including those at Columbine High School in Colorado, Virginia Tech University and Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. The research was launched following the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Odd, that study has been out longer than that. I have used it here a couple times.

Reactions: Me.
Not sure how they study would actually be useful. They list out all the statistics about the killers (not all shooters, it says knives were used as well) but doesn't say how many people fit the exact profile and yet don't do anything. Correlation does not prove causation and all that.

They are answering the wrong question, were the perpetrators exhibiting certain behaviors? That is worthless if those behaviors don’t set them apart from their peers. Stupid example, every school shooter to date has worn shoes to school for the year leading up to hos break, so what?

This should not be a surprise. Kinda like water is wet. What they havent ever said that I read is WTF was up with the Las Vegas shooter. I still say brain tumor like Charles Whitman. Also, why did the SS commission this study?

OK, they updated the study I think. This is still the most important finding in that study IMO. Attackers usually can't keep their mouth's shut. Which is why all types of threats are being taken so seriously, and some over reactions to non threats. 83% seems like a pretty solid thing to grab hold of and pay attention too.

Threats to the Target, Others, and/or Intent to Attack: Most of the attackers (n = 29, 83%) shared verbal, written, visual, or video communications that referenced their intent to carry out an attack, threatened the target, and/or threatened others.
