Should I:

a) Pepper my angus
b) Post a thread about it
c) Lick the boots of the JBTs that take a small fortune from me every year at gunpoint and then thank them for the opportunity to enthusiastically give them even more money
d) Go straight to hell
e) All of the above

For those that haven't seen the 77 toll lanes: they do not have dedicated exits, and so when you want to get off the highway you have to merge into the PPLs (Poor People Lanes) and then quickly move over to the exit.

Of course, no one ever lets the toll payers merge back in, because F*** YOU I HAVE TO WAIT AND NOW SO DO YOU. I watch that and laugh. Those poor suckers paid money to get there faster and now they can't merge back in. Haha.

They should let me back in, though.

Hahaha, so true! I don't let them in.

Also, on off times you see a few cars paying .25 cents a mile to ride at the same speed as the other lanes. What? You want to spend $ I'll send you a bill every day for nothing.

Should I:

f) " ... Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

:p

As a former NY'r I avoid all toll roads if I can.
I'll pay the mail invoice the three times I use 540 in Wake county.

I don't use 77 much during rush hour; I actually got the pass for the Monroe Bypass. Granted, I only go through Monroe once or twice a year, but for the privelege of never ever having to drive through Monroe again, I would gladly pay the sum of:

NC has some of the highest fuel taxes in the US, yet the POS’s the Marxists put in charge now must fleece The People for more.
It makes my Agent Orange act up.
Every gallon of gas, diesel sold. Every vehicle inspection in NC. Every registration and the renewals in NC. Every vehicle sold in NC all have a tax that is for roads and highways. Absolutely zero reason for us to have any toll roads.

If you do create an account and register your tags, then you get the discount even if you don’t attach the sticker. I didn’t want one on my new truck, so I get 30% off with the tailgate up and it’s free with the tailgate down (like when carrying my kayak in the bed).

You can blame Mike Easley for the toll roads. During the 2002 recession, he robbed nearly a billion dollars a year from the Highway Trust Fund to pay the State’s bills. Easier than cutting wasteful spending I guess. Illegal, but with total Democrat control of the Legislature and the judges, it was upheld and continued until the R’s took control and stopped it around 2015. By then the fund was broke. Local governments like Fuquay and Apex were told 540 extension would need to wait more than a decade or toll it. They caved.

Yup. The bastards got their northern 1/2 paved & said screw you to the rest. I-77 followed suit.

I only use toll roads in a company truck, on my scooter or with the tail gate down. The plate on my scooter is tucked under the tour pak and can’t be read by the scanners.

I believe the Spanish company that built the I77 toll road is the one who keeps the toll money, not NC.

Sure do. And sets the price for the next 50 years. still doesnt change the fact that all vehicle owner/fuel buyers had already paid for it years in advance

One thing I have learned in the past month.

I will never complain about the cost of taxes and travel in North Carolina again.

I just wish the money went to education...

You're right; it's better off in Spain.

I think I vaguely remember that happening - I even got the t-shirt.

It's hard to find good information online, but my understanding is they are using the money (minus operational expenses) to pay back investors, most of which are in the US*.

There was misinformation floating around for a while that this lets a private company take all the risk but that is not true. NC guaranteed the private partnership a minimum level of income, so we are going to pay one way or the other - through taxes or tolls. It's enough to make you angry, if you're the angry sort.

* Probably friends and family of the elected representatives that orchestrated this whole mess.

Well, that Spanish company tried projects like this in a couple other states and went bust each time. I guess good for them it finally worked out?

McCrory was supposed to renegotiate the deal but didn't... and probably lost tens of thousands of voters affected by the project.

Hmm, maybe enough to lose?

I opted to purchase an NC Quick Pass EZ Pay Flex option RFID box, as it works in several states, including the ATL Express lanes. I travel the southeast working, and it's cheaper than forgetting to paying the toll by mail letters, plus I get a discount on the tolls.

Motorcycles automatically qualify for free travel in the I-77 Express Lanes, a transponder is not required. I'm not sure about scooters since they might be too gay to qualify for the free travel option. :D

Motorcycles can travel in the HOV lanes but you still have to pay the tolls in the toll lane.
