I've never spoken to them. They bought the place a few months ago and "Hi neighbor, WhyTH do you have donkeys?" seems awkward now.

They started with two dogs. Great, love dogs. They got some chickens. Sure, eggs are nice. They got some little goats. Not sure why but they were cute so whatever. Now there's these 4 donkey looking things at their house. They make loud, weird noises in the middle of the night and I'm not sure what their point is.

It's a house, not a farm. And there's a no livestock paragraph in the neighborhood conventions, but there's no HOA and I don't want to be a dick about it. I am wondering what the point is and if they plan on adding more animals.

Could be worse. My trash neighbour is planning on horses and pigs in his 1 acre lot. Which is going to smell fantastic come summer.

Keep coyotes away from the other critters. Donkeys hate coyotes and will kill them given the chance.

And any unknown dogs that get into the pasture with them.

Donkeys are ridiculously smart and terrific guard animals.

You may want to check on how they define livestock in your disclosure. Chickens are almost always not included and often goats, horses are as well. Often times livestock is used to keep people from starting a dairy or hog farm but most other animals are accepted.

Sounds like something my neighbors could say. We started with a dog then pigs, chickens, turkeys, quail and one horse. Now it’s two pigs, chickens, three dogs, four horses and a donkey. We don’t live in a subdivision though and sit on 12 acres so it may be a bit different than your situation.

We have a donkey in with our goats for this reason. Apart from her role as a guardian, she's also just a lot of fun to have around.

On the other hand...yeah, she can definitely be loud. No louder than the donkey over across the creek that she hollers back and forth with, or the cattle nearby. But loud. We're not in a neighborhood, though.

My neighbor raises chickens and rabbits. It is against the “restrictive covenants” of the neighborhood/development.

I couldn’t care less and I ain’t saying a damned word about it...his property. ‘Sides...I’ve let him use my mower, tools, etc and I know for a fact if we ever needed eggs/meat, he’d oblige.

It’s a win/win.

My dream:
Move somewhere that the neighbors either don't exist or just worry about themselves.
Welcome to my home! :D

Could be food donkeys... They are cheap compared to horses and cows, don't require a lot of room, healthy, and like horse, it's good meat. Not common here in the US though... Are your neighbors foreign?

I like your attitude (have for a bit brother!), I get it makes weird noises, but eh, it could be worse.
My neighbors are basketball players, and I can hear them dribbling 'late' in to the night (late for me, not for others...9pm lol). Is it slightly annoying? Sure.
Does it really bother me, truly? Nah, minor thing.
Plus, the dad is great and will keep an eye on the house when Im away etc.

To heck with HOAs, damn the man!

Ok, I saw a court case one day that had a damage to property claim. The tenant had filled the 2 bay garage 2 1/2 ft deep with cedar shavings and kept his horse in it. It had caused something like 25k in damages but they were only asking for 5k dollars from the tenant. The tenant argued that in his lease it said he was allowed to keep pets and didn't see a problem. Well the found against him.

That’s impressive. I’m surprised the damage stopped at 25k, I imagine the garage had to be gutted.

My version:

To be able to walk outside, at any time of the day or night, and not be able to tell whether or not I have neighbors.
My dream too!
Just left the detroit area where the houses are only 15 feet apart side by side if you're lucky. Had a little back yard to grow some veggies, but that was about it.
Now I have 2 acres. 2 sides are already wooded all around, 1 side is road, the other side is dirt road (where the neighbors sit on their porch and look over at us). I'm thinking about planting some shrubs all around the perimeter (possibly thorny berry bushes).
I can kind of shoot into the wooded corner, and once I get a dirt berm set up, you'll never stop me!
I hear neighbor gun shots all day long, but I've only seen a couple of people a couple of times... almost perfect.

When the neighbors shoot, I can usually tell what's going on. They start with the handguns, then the rifles, getting bigger. Before they wrap up, they bring out the cannon.

Sometimes when I go out and shoot, they seem to think it's a good idea and join in.

Our place in the mountains is like that. You can see other houses, but everyone stays out of each other’s business. My daughter wanted to go walk around and knock on doors to meet the people in the area. I told her people buy houses with land in the mountains so they don’t have to meet their neighbors’ kids. I’ve met most of the people on our little hill, but it’s a different vibe than the burbs.

And peeing off the deck is fun at any age. :D

Every once in a while I hear number 4 here. Before I knew they had donkeys I thought something was loudly killing one of the goats.

But I suppose I can be neighborly and ignore the whole thing. It's only woken me up once. Now that I know what's doing it and I'm not laying there wondering what's murdering their goats it won't be so bad.

Funny stuff, but I wonder if the wagging tails means they're happy. lol.
