Good job keeping those young men in the woods!!! It's a lot of work prepping to get these kids on deer but there's nothing like it!!!

Tis true! But now, mine are seasoned veterans at the ripe ol age of 15 and 18. They'll be dragging and cleaning my deer for me sooner than they think ;)

Haven't hunted much in the last few years by being down range this time. Picked up my license yesterday, hit the Gamelands at 0615 and sunrise was at 0639 this morning. Noticed him chasing a doe at first light while moving to where I thought I was going to set up my ground blind. Dropped him at 0630 at 150 yds, first shot hit him further back but he only ran 25 yds and dropped him DRT with second shot to broiler room. Federal 5.56 62gr Fusion. Now if only bear season goes like this Monday :)

Saw a weird buck chasing a small doe this morning. He had main beams on both sides but nothing else. Would have probably shot him but the only time he stopped he was behind a tree and took off chasing tail again. It was my first time hearing a snort wheeze when he stopped and that was pretty cool. Gotta run to dollar general then heading back for the afternoon.

Got this 8 pt, 16" inside spread, a little while ago, laying in my field from being hit by a car. He was hit Thursday or Friday morning and we just found him this afternoon. Looks like his guts were busted up. Headed out to see if I can't get something like this with the muzzleloader.

Widest spread deer I have seen local was hit by a car several years ago in Julian. My buddy picked it up and had it mounted. Not real heavy but almost 22" wide inside. Took top honors at the Dixie classic in "other" catagory. Just goes to prove that they loose their minds for a little while each year. Gives us hunters a little hope.

I shot this fellow a few mins after 3pm today. I had been in the stand about 20 mins.

Almost immediately after getting in the tree I started seeing and hearing turkeys. I counted a parade of 10 crossing the creek below me and then they all started working their way toward me scratching.

As I'm sitting there eating sunflower seeds and spitting the hulls I thought maybe it would be a good opportunity to grab some pics of the turkeys. I pulled my phone out of my vest and caught sight of antlers approaching me out of the corner of my eye.

I got my crosshairs on him about the time he looked straight at me. We sat locked in that position for about 5 mins. I had no shot because a sapling was in the way and he was straight on facing me.

I was afraid the turkeys were gonna bust me more than I already was. Finally he settled down and put his head down to sniff at the doe scent I'd put out before getting in the tree.

He turned ever so slightly and took a step out from behind the sapling. As he did I squeezed the trigger. The Hornady SST did its job beautifully. He staggered about 30 yards before piling up for good.

How was the ride back out from the bottom?

Lol

Didn't ride. Mule wouldn't crank. Carted him all the way back to the first field.
That's why I gave the "lol"

She showed me a few mins before you posted here. Hahahaha

Side note. I'll probably be heading back in the next couple weeks if you need help to fill a stand.

There’s some bigguns over here

I’m headed to MI Tuesday for some bow and gun hunting. Hopefully I’ll have some pics to share

And since we're going out of state, an old friend of mine sent me this last night. He lives near Austin, TX, but says this spot is about an hour and a half away. He admits being lazy and not getting up early enough to make the trip to try to bag this guy.

Because you're green? I don't see a problem with that. Well, unless it's like a really bright green.
Nope, not green in color (generally), its because I ain't got no wings and thus aren't a birdy. Therefore, I do not belong in trees! That is the short way of saying I be toooooooo FAT for tree stands!

Well I didn't manage to get a pic because the bugger made me about piss myself but that big fat bastard popped out the bushes about 20 yards away from me last night and just stood there laughing at me for a good minute or so.

He didn't even seem too concerned when I moved a bit closer, so I'm guessing someone has gotten him used to seeing folks. Not a huge rack but he looks pretty tasty.
