What do you know about Donuts??

I never met a donut I didn’t like. Duck’s are good but over-hyped IMO. My favorite is a plain cake Old Fashioned from DD with a cuppa strong black coffee. All that extra sugar and sprinkles are for kids. Don’t kid yerself, bacon sprinkles are still sprinkles.

Old fashioned cider, omg. I need some donuts now

When we were kids [back when dinosaurs roamed], before KK or DD were in this part of the world there was a place called The Do Nut Diner in Florence, S.C. The DoNuts were as big as a coffee saucer and as thick as @Burt Gummer's hand. They were gnarly and knotty and greasy and had hard dried sugar on them. They cost one dime and a 1/2 pint of chocolate milk was a nickel. We walked that way home from school every day. Damn, I can taste them Now!!!

I'm a simple man & KK's plain glazed doughnuts are all I need, though a glass of ice cold moo juice to wash 'em down is always appreciated. We only had Dunkin' Donuts when I was a kid & meh.

Oh, meringue & Dukes here.
They work well for the munchies

I used to love KK but there's so much sugar alcohol in their glaze since they started doing hot fresh everywhere I can't eat them at all. You can taste the difference, it's not worth the heartburn anymore.

Those of you near the hipsters in Asheville need to hit up Vortex Doughnuts next to Buxton Hall. They do cake and yeast doughnuts and both are exceptional. So is their coffee...

When I am in the area, I hit Buxton Hall for a chicken sandwich, Vortex for a doughnut and espresso, then walk down the hill to Burial Brewing for a beer or two...

Lots of good donuts around. I go to the asian one near my barber. A proper donut place does cake or raised well.

I can say now that Ima Dukes guy for sure. As for nanner puddin... just bring it to me. No matter what you put on top.

This thread has been enlightening. Until today, I thought that there was only one kind of donut:

I think this can also boil down to an argument between cakey doughnuts and doughy doughnuts.

And then there is donut vs doughnut....
Cake doughnuts are, in my opinion, an abomination. The worst are those little pretenders that are covered in powdered sugar. It should be illegal to print the word "doughnut" on the package they come in.

Can't find them here, but my favorite is Southern Maid. And... nanner puddin is necked, mayo is mayo.

Friends of mine helped open a Burney's Sweets & More in downtown Erwin. They make a maple and bacon that's pretty dang good. I ate enough that it prompted me to create this (stolen) Burney's Barbie:

71 posts and I'm the first to correct y'all?!?

Burney's Sweet's & more /thread

While not doughnuts, they are croissants , they IMO send even Britt's packing. Store in Fayetteville, elizabethtown, and a couple other places in NC.

Krispy Kream is a close second.

Rise-up bakery in Fay is also good, more biscuit like batter than cake.

All three of the above are far superior to Duck Doughnuts.

I've driven past there a few times and haven't ever stopped in. That'll change.
Try their plain glazed, things are HUGE. After you do, come back here to this post and tell us what you think.
