70 grand fully loaded 2.9 seconds 0 to 60. Will it last as long a a diesel for the same money? Nope but it sure as hell will outrun anything.

Instead of trying to make everything, he should concentrate on an SUV and skip the cars and trucks.

I watched the event last night and I kept thinking this is a joke right? The real truck is gonna come out any second. You could hear people laughing at it on the streams last night when it drove out.
I actually like it, but don’t think it’s gonna sell very well.

That's some seriously ugly design work there fellas.

I mailed Elon the design schematics for the exterior. Found them in some school work my parents had boxed up from my days in 1st grade. Looks like he was able to convert the crayon drawings perfectly.

At least we're finally getting the future the 80s promised us.

and i'm not real impressed with how he threw the ball into the windows. at least look like you're trying dude.

So where am I supposed to put some sheets of plywood and my 10 ft. 2x4s?

Right in the back and strap it down. But he is definitely going to need a long bed version if you truly want to compete with the working man’s truck.

I think I've seen this truck at Pinewood Derby.

It seems like he is taking on Subaru Outbacks instead of taking on existing pickup trucks. It perfectly fits my image of what someone from Silicon Valley thinks a truck is used for.

I don't hate that. I can't afford one so my opinion doesn't mean much, but I don't hate it.

Well you have to move all those extra crates of Soylent and your polygendered Shitzu puppy's autumn wardrobe somehow!

has a APC from Aliens look.
Also DeLorean. Also BladeRunner.

Looks like the body design was done in MS Paint.

What a pity. At the price point they're aiming for, they could have competed in the real pickup truck market. The big truck brands aren't losing any sleep over this.

The real electric truck challenger remains Rivian.

I keep thinking this was a prank, between the design and the smashed windows, and that they'll unveil the real truck next week.

No doubt Musk has taken a lesson from Bezos, he knew the windows would get damaged,
Bezos has his delivery drone demos, all the free publicity at no cost to the company. Concept car not real production model.

You know, you say that, but I have to wonder how many, even here, have a pickup truck and use it's fully capabilities each day? Or even half it's capabilities.
How many pull a trailer every day/week/month? How many fill up their bed daily or even weekly?
How many folks actually put more in their truck than what would fit in an Outback or something of that size?

I mean, I got coworkers with trucks, rarely have much with them that wouldnt fit in my econobox.
See a ton of trucks on the road, see lots in my neighborhood...rarely see a 'normal' guy's truck (ie: not a company worktruck) used for anything more than a standard honda civic or something, but with crap mpg.
Its got a 6.5' bed, yeah, not super long, but it's more than some F150, longer than a Dodge Ram 1500, and only barely less than a 1500 Chevy
I think it's more capable as a truck than most are giving it credit for.
Looks are opinion (I, too, am not a fan of the looks), but performance seems really nice, and the bed with the ramp is a bonus.

What Im saying, in a nutshell, is most folks that have pickups today would never use this truck shown here to it's limits, they just like having a pickup for it's looks and status symbol. And, I think, many are poo-pooing it because it's electric and not traditional.

@HMP

You have some good points on traditional trucks and use. To add, how many modified 4x4s you see only used as mall crawlers? I saw a lifted truck just the other day that I guarantee hasn't been on the trails.

To me the Tesla truck is in the group with El Camino, Brats, Honda truck, Explorer Sport Trac, etc. It's designed to put bags of stuff in the open trunk. Pull a trailer and the range is cut in half. Heck, run the a/c, heat and it impacts the range. Functionally it has a small market. Look wise, it's got a long way to go.

Since I bought my trailer most bulk/heavy items go in there but I use my truck to pull it. On average the truck has more in it than the Tesla truck could handle. It can also make a run back and forth to Raleigh without stopping to fill up. Just because electric won't work for 90% of buyers there are a lot of sales left out there.

Good points, and part of why I don’t own a truck. I would love to own an EV, but not this one.

Well and that's why I didnt get a truck when I was shopping too.
At the time I bought my daily driver (Ford), I was racing motorcycles. I made the conscious decision to not buy another truck and, instead, get a car that will sip gas, doubling the MPG of the SUV I had that was hit.

Do I miss having a vehicle that can haul the trailer? Sure. But that was 5 or 6 times a year, vs driving 30+miles a day, every day.

@rdinatal Yes, it reminds me of the ridgeline by the body shape, but, again, the bed is just as large, if not larger, than all the full sized trucks.
Yes, youre right, range will drop when towing, running heat etc. But stop at a supercharger on the way, take a 15/20 minute break to pee and grab a snack and keep on rolling a few hundred more miles.

@Ferrisfan Ive ridden in a EV once, very quick! Very nice interior and the technology was really cool. Im not sold yet, but these EV and hybrid cars just keep progressing that I could see one in my driveway in a decade or so.

IF I were interested in an electric pickemup truck. It would be more like this one.

This one looks interesting too. Claims a 500 mile range. Not sure if it'll get produced though. Rumors are it's a scam.

If they're a scam it's a good one. Bezos ordered 100k vans from them for Amazon to begin delivery next year.

I was referring to Atlis as a potential scam. They are making some unrealistic claims. The Rivian RT1 is legit. AMOF Ford has partnered with Rivian to the tune of a half Billion. Ford may take the Rivian "skate board" and put F-150 bodies on it.
