Headed up to Bryson City for a weekend with the family coming up and looking for any recommedations to eat or must sees while in the area. Will have young kids ages 7 and under with us so prefer kid friendly events.

When we got married this year we went to Bryson City on our honeymoon. That night we ate at Pasqualino’s Italian restaurant. It seemed really good but then again maybe it was just that particular night that made it seem so good. There were a few places there but don’t forget buds gun shop and Smokey mountain knife works are near by in sevierville, Tennessee. Both are well worth the trip. Have fun.

We hit up Smokey Mountain last time we were there its def a cool place to go visit and drool.

Another vote for Pasqualino’s. Bryson City is a cool little town.

Actually taking kids to polar express so got that covered I think.

Next year, do the one at the transportation museum in Spencer. Be prepared to pay more, but for a better experience.

Here are places we liked in Bryson City:
-Everett Street Diner (good and not expensive, but especially good for breakfast)
-The Chocolate Shoppe - candy store, chocolate covered apples
-Nantahala brewing company for semi-fancy dinner
-Guayabitos Mexican restaurant for good food, just a normal Mexican place, but good
-Visit “the road to nowhere” tunnel (not a long walk to get to it, but you can keep hiking past it if you want to go further). Bring at least one flashlight and watch out for horse poop in the tunnel. Tell your kids not to read all the graffiti. Play Ozzy Osborne ”road to nowhere” on your phone while walking thru it.
-Lots of little shops downtown to visit
-Oconaluftee Islands park in Cherokee, although maybe not because it’s too cold for the kids to play on the water. We were there in July/Aug. My kids wanted to stay all day.
-shops in Cherokee (very touristy knick knacks, but fun to look around)
-Smokemont Riding Stables in Cherokee (Great Smoky Mountains National park) horseback trail riding. was super fun, long enough to be fun but not wear you out, adventurous enough but not dangerous for those who have no riding experience. We have gone there twice and still plan to go again.
-Oconaluftee visitor center near Smokemont. Historic stuff to look at.
-Fontana Dam if you don’t mind the drive to it
-Asheville Pinball Museum if you have time when passing thru Asheville. It is an awesome pinball and 80s video game arcade. They are hopefully still using one of my railroad spike bottle openers at the bar. :)

Pretty much what everybody beat me to. Pasqulinos for high class Tuscan food. Everett Street, food trucks at Bryson City Outdoors or Mountain Layers. Mountain Perks and the Bryson City Bistro are worth hitting. You can get take out and go to the breweries.
Currently sitting at the best place to eat in Bryson.
Road to nowhere, Deep Creek for hiking or biking. Fire Mountain trails in Cherokee.

We spent a long weekend there a few weeks ago.

Pasqulinos was great..we stuffed ourselves silly.

Nantahala brewing was kind of a let down, hectic, no one behind the bar seemed to care.. we had a half pint of their oktoberfest and split back to Mountain Layers.

Train ride is awesome...polar express would be cool for kiddos.

Forgot the breakfast joint we ate at, but kind off everett, parking lot in front...

Hit Cherokee, the museum was cool. Skip the casino. Left 200. There. Heh.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations we will have to check some of them out.

Rivers End at NOC if you are hungry when you stop there.

Nate and Nicks pizza in Bryson is really good.

Head over to Cherokee and just into the park on 441 to see the elk.

If the train goes up river into the gorge keep and eye out for the landslides across the river. The amount of damage done is impressive and shut the road down for a couple days and the river was closed to boats for several weeks.

We went several years ago for the Polar Express and have been to most small towns in the mountains. Coolest place to see IMO in that area is the Cherokee museum in Cherokee which is a short drive from Bryson. I liked it, wife and kids motored through, but i read and watched everything. I thought it was interesting.

Cherokee museum is a definite go to. Farmstead and the welcome center at Great Smokey Mt. National Park, Mingus Mill is interesting, water powered grist mill without a water wheel.
Elk and turkeys will be where you see them, I see elk almost every day on my way to or from work.
If anyone in the family are fly fishermen or women, there are two sections of catch and release trophy waters, one on the Tuckasseegee here in Bryson and one in Cherokee.
Mountain Layers Brewery and Bryson City Outdoors both have tasting rooms, BCO has a large variety of beer, ale and cider, both usually have a food truck parked on site. Outdoor seating and music sometimes.
You are welcome to join us for Church on Sunday as well, service starts at 10:00 AM.

The filling station / high test deli has great lunch sandwiches and ice cream sandwiches made with homemade cookies if you need lunch one day.

I might be wrong but I’m pretty sure Nick and Nates pizza in Sylva is no longer in business. It wasn’t this past year when we visited Cullowhee/Sylvia and Dillsboro

I agree with all the above posters about Everett street diner and the filling station. Both are excellent. I worked at that Walgreens(used to be Kerr Drug) while attending WCU years ago. Love that small town

That cost me a ton last time we went
Had fun though

I have not asked the wife and probably don’t want to know but have a round about idea, least sounds like might be a good time and worth it as long as kids enjoy it. Its when you pay that money and no one has a good time that really hurts.

See the elk if nothing else.
Not many places in the world where you can get that experience. Go just outside of Cherokee and before the GSM welcome center about dusk, they will put on a show for you.

Yeah, Nick and Nates in Sylva closed down a couple years ago. They were constantly swamped with customers when on main street, but as soon as they opened the nowplace, ghost town.... closed in 18 months or less.

Might have one in BC idk.

Bryson City has Nate and Nicks, not Nick and Nates. Filling Station is good, but if you are in Cherokee at lunch, go to the Front Porch Cakery and Deli. Front Porch is my go-to lunch spot. Order the pot roast sandwich, not on the menu board, but trust me on this.
Elk will be where you see them, I saw about a dozen this morning from Big Cove Road. Remember they are wild animals, not show pieces, sometimes I can't find one to show somebody, then I can see one from my office window. Most I have seen together is 64. I see 4 big bulls between Bryson and Cherokee 2 or 3 times a week.

Just about where the Blue Ridge Parkway runs into 441?

Yes BRP hits US 441 just south of the huge field adjacent to Welcome Center. That's where I saw the large group. I was taking someone to look for some one year, and found four right behind Kentucky Fried Chicken.

I have seen them years ago and one up close when it walked out in road in front of rental car I was in about 5-10 yds away, they are very impressive large animals. Hopefully we can see some so the wife and kids can see them and beleave me I been around enough large animals I wouldn’t want to tangle with one or prevoke one. Is their a certain time of day you are more likely to see them or the turkeys out?

Morning or evening are the best times. Working in Cherokee I have seen them at all hours of the day. Unlike deer I have never seen one at night. Goes for both elk and turkeys.
There are several fields along US 441, and a couple on Big Cove Road if you don't see any on 441.
