I wish they'd send them to Wake Forest. Hilarity would ensue!

Statesville used to do this. They would put them on a Greyhound to Atlanta with no return ticket.

Reactions: Me.
“There’s a shortage of workers,” said Luckett. “We partner with Wake Tech Community College to give them the skills they need for hot jobs.”

That’s why many groups see homelessness as a temporary situation.

“Our belief is that each person has sacred value,” said Luckett. “We want to treat them that way and help them get back on their feet.”

Nice sentiment, but then theres reality. The presumption here that these people have the ability and the will to learn.

An ESC employee once said to me concerning the mill closure up in Concord years ago...

Crime's going to go up. They expect to "re-educate" these people, but that won't happen. Some of them are third generation mill workers and it's all they've ever known. Some of them don't even have high school education. They're not capable of re-educating, most if them anyways. The benefits will run out and the crime will increase, because there's nowhere else for them to turn.

Why the hell doesn’t damned Noo Yoik train them for their needed labor force???

It’s time for the carpet baggin’ POS’s to mind their own and quit defecating on us.

My tirade isn’t toward you right thinking, voting and neighborly acting folk that have relocated south of the Massey Dixie.

I know a dude who's in his late 50's now, worked with him at a hospital a couple years back. He worked a mill job from the time he got out of high school until NAFTA shuttered the mill and put him on unemployment. Luckily, he managed to get some sort or grant to go back to school. He now has a bachelors in his discipline.

Granted, that's not typical, but don't throw the baby out with the bath water.

I saw this Wednesday. I really thought it might get more traction in the conversation lane. Hell, ya'll are lucky really. They send us Nuclear Waste. Now that I think about it, which is really worse???

everybody tells this story about their town. I first heard this in Winston and the story goes the cops would take up a collection and put a few homeless people on a bus to Atlanta or where ever. Then a few days or weeks later a bus would come back loaded with homeless and one would have a note pinned to his sleeve reading "we can beat you at this game".

What has happened in Statesville was the Division of Prisons learned that the Fifth Street Shelter would accept anyone at their facility so anywhere in the state that had someone coming up for parole and no place to stay would send them there. That took some doing to get that practice stopped.

If you look the window at work there is a huge complex of hotel and retirement highrise etc being built. There is not a single black on that construction site. Secure the border and send back those here illegally and boom, millions of jobs for Americans.
