I almost titled this thread as “Best Coffee” but since “best” is subjective depending on ones own palette, I changed it to what it is.

long story short is that I had to quit drinking coffee about 18 years ago because it was making my heart race. Fast forward to a couple of months ago when I was at my son in laws house and he made coffee in a French press. I had a small cup and it was DELICIOUS and no ill effects. When I was younger I drank sugared milk with coffee in it but am now drinking it black and love it. I love the smell, the taste, and the slight caffeine boost.

I have tried only a few coffees and was wondering what everyone’s favorite was. I have tried the following:
Peet’s Major Dickason, Dark, sometimes bitter and burnt taste.
Pete’s Big Bang, my favorite so far. Not as bitter and burnt tasting.
Allegro Cafe la Duena, floral tasting and some days is what I like.
Black Rifle AK 47, this was at son in laws house and is his go to. I can barely remember what I liked about this coffee because I was more concerned with the rate of my heart but I remember thinking it was good.

I did mix some Major Dickason with the Allegro and it was pretty awesome but not something I’d want to try to recreate on a daily basis. I will continue to use a French press and grind my own beans.

post up your favorites and tell me why you like it. Thanks

I don't have a favorite, per se. We drink folgers half-caf.

But I am definitely interested to see what others are saying.

Bought a bag of Black Powder / Cinnamon Bun flavor, and have been very pleased (a little pricey where I got it). Worth it though!

Starbucks Pikes Peak Med Roast. $5.99 and bag usually at Teeter.

Caribou house blend, medium roast.

Buy it whole bean and grind it immediately before brewing. Coarsest grind setting on the machine.

Use filtered water, bring to a boil

Brew for 4 minutes, no more.

Enjoy the best cuppa coffee!

Whatever brand you buy, grind it fresh, no tap water, and 4 minute brew time.

Green beans from Oaxaca (Potchutla), up in the mountains. Roast them on a low open flame in a skillet outside (you WILL smoke up the house if indoors), till the sugars pop twice. Let them cool and then finely ground.

Do that, you will be "rurnt" for domestic coffee, forever. I am out, and drinking Folgers. Last time I brought back about 15 pounds. It is a hassle getting it thru customs as it is an "agricultural product" if unroasted. Plan on spending an extra day at the port of entry.

Worth it, though. I thought about driving down and hauling back about 5-7 50 gallon barrels of beans. It would be cheaper to have them shipped, of course, but the sleaze bag packing them would probably dump a bunch of lowland bags in there and just tell me they were highland blends.

Coffee in the Oaxaca mountains is one of the few blends where the farmers grow without commercial pesticides, as well, if that means anything to you.

Gevalia House blend or Espresso roast. Both make amazing cups of coffee.

Currently drinking caribou. It's pretty good for what can be found at the grocery store. Strongly considering getting into roasting my own beans. My go-to brew method for the mornings is a Moka pot and if making coffee for company or in the evenings, a french press. At some point I'll get into pour over as well, but haven't bothered with it yet.

You know the forum gets a small discount if it you buy it straight from them right? I love their coffee

Awesome, how exactly do I take advantage of this?

I'm not generally a fan of flavored coffees, but one of the best cups if coffee I've had was Godiva Vanilla Hazelnut. Years ago, when a cup was given to me, in didn't know it was a flavored coffee. So, it wasn't overpowered with the flavors and I drink coffee black with sugar. I just thought it was a good tasting cup of coffee and asked about it. Don't know if they still make it.

My favorite coffee is Kopi Luwak. But I can't afford it but once a year or so.

Second to that would be Jamaica Blue Mountain.

French Press is definitely the way to go and the only way I brew those two.

Everything else is about the same after those.

If you have to put anything in it, it's not good coffee. That's not saying you're not allowed to put anything in it--I'm just saying it can't be eligible for "good" status if it needs creamer or sugar.

All-time favorite: "real" Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee. It's about $50/lb for the real stuff. Lot's of imitators out there.
Regular-time favorite: I rotate between Green Mountain Dark Magic, Gevalia Signature and/or Dark Royal Roast, and Seattle's Best Portside Blend.

I'm a Keurig guy, for better or worse. Not gonna knock any of the fancy methods (French presses, drip, etc.), I just don't have the skills, patience, nor time to make it that way. I am apparently the only person on earth that cannot make a good batch of coffee in a normal coffee machine, so Keurig was invented for me. Don't judge.

I was gonna go in together with some office workers to try it one year, but we never did. Is it really worth it?

One of Black Rifle's darker roast, Blackbeard's Delight is my favorite.

I like trying different kinds, always whole beans ground before brewing.

My daily morning drink...

2 pods of Victor Allen Seattle Dark
1 pod of Victor Allen Hazelnut

Run them through the Keurig into my 30oz mug, and hit the road...

I drink Maxwell house breakfast blend. Just because it’s easier to set the coffee maker overnight and have it ready to go in the morning when I’m ready. I’m not a morning person, so Coffee is essential for Civility lol

I buy whole bean coffee from Black Rifle, grind and use a French Press. Beyond Black, Caffeine and Hate and AK47 are my go-tos. For ground coffee to use in a Keurig, I buy their CAF in the 5lb bags just to keep ahead of my wife’s and daughter caffeine cravings

To be honest nothing is actually worth that kind of money. Lol. But I look at it like this. I have, once or twice bought an expensive bottle of scotch. And I really enjoy it when I have the disposable income to do it. I savor every sip.

The same can be said for kopi luwak. It is delicious. Very clean. A bit nutty. But the absolute best part is there is absolutely no after taste.

Anchor Coffee in Wilkesboro is great, as is Camp Coffee and Hatchet (Boone) are also really good. We do have a subscription to Black Rifle Coffee too.. (we go through a lot of coffee!).

Caribou is good too.

If I am at the store, and we're out (really odd) I'll grab Wicked Joes or even Community if I can find it.

I'll only do Starbucks if I'm on the road and or desperate.

It's coffee, not the cure for cancer. I won't be buying those IPA brands. Also I looked into french press and I'm not willing to invest 15 minutes for a fragging cup o coffee.

I've found that I like the Folgers columbian blend best.

I've been drinking Black Rifle Just Black, Black Rifle AK, and Black Rifle SS for years. Just learned of Black Powder from this site and waiting on my first shipment from them.

For mass produced coffee, I would choose Green Mountain whole bean, since I can get it cheaper than Caribou and I've been told that Green Mountain owns Caribou.
