saw this posted on NFATalk and figured I’d post it up here:

If you shoot these Accurate rifle powders, there is a recall on powders made prior to 1 Oct 2016.

4064
2495
4350

Check here to see if the lot number on your container is affected.

Thanks for the PSA. Looks like I have 4 pounds of the affected 4064. Only one has been opened. I took a whiff just now and it is super strong smelling. Dang.

Just a heads-up, Accurate/Western Powders is good to go. I opened a dialogue with them on 11/21, got them all the info they needed on 11/22, and received a check Friday 11/29.

I have a 4lb jug of "Commercial 4064" that matches the date and lot number but isn't Accurate branded. It looks and smells fine. Wonder if I should call?

Good question. I guess it depends if you're going to go ahead & load it or if you're too wary to trust it. There was no doubt about mine, it smelled rancid.

Incredibly efficient operation. That's really impressive.

Same here. Talked with them Dec 4th and the check ($35) was received today for the 1 pound 4350 I had.

Give them a call. Even if you get the voice mail, they will call you back in a few hours. That was my experience.

I think I have a # of the 2495 that is affected and has been hanging around. My guess is that is how they found out is that it took this long to break down and start to melt the containers

Took that long for them to find you on the watch list. ;)
Funny story (or not). My name was on a NO FLY list. Just my name. I was denied boarding one time and had to go to the genius bar and show what credentials I had. Wasnt flying internationally so I did not have my passport. The genius gave me a boarding pass and a form that I had to fill out later along with copy of my birth certificate, SS card and passport and send to FBI. All I ever heard was they were in receipt of the documents but I never heard anything else and never had any more boarding issues.

Thanks for posting. Missed it last time but shared with a friend who inherited a ton of reloading stuff.

I have some IMR 4064 (about 4lbs) not Accurate but from that time frame. Will check on it when I go out to the shed. It was my understanding that IMR and Accurate were together some how.

Someone in a post above also posted that they had IMR and lot# and date matched up. If they do I will call. Rather be safe then sorry.

Thanks for the heads up.

The Accurate Powder recall was repeated in the latest American Rifleman I got the other day. Date code prior to Oct 2016
4064 lot #'s 2 thru 16
2495 lot #'s 2 thru 17
4350 lot #'s 2 thru 12

Thats a bunch of bad powder with warnings that include: combustion, fire damage, possible serious injury or property damage. I especially like the possibility of "red fumes" when you open the container.

So THAT'S what those red fumes pouring out from the closet were from!

Good Lord....
