How much .22lr ammo do you have?

I might be overthinking it, but I'm not real fond of inventory questions on an indexed and searchable website.

Indeed, a sad truth of the times.

With that, I was building up to shoot competitively and used 22lr conversions as training tools for ~10months. I would say I was at ~ 15k of 22lr, and would purchase more as deals came through or I hit the 10k range.

UNFORTUNATELY, I am fairly certain the [locked] crate of ammo slid out the back of my vehicle and into the ocean when I hit that massive pothole on the Verrazano bridge while on the relocation drive here to NC. Me very upset. hundreds (thousands?) of dollars in consumable firearm paraphernalia were lost on that most horrible of days :(

Enough to carry me through another shortage without getting concerned.

Once prices returned to pre-scare levels, <$200/5k, I began buying.

mmmmmm sometimes its all about how you ask the question :)

THIS is a MUCH better and entertaining way of asking a similar question and is inherently hypothetical unless the responder chooses to declare otherwise.

So now I ask--because this is an incredibly relative and subjective matter--what exactly do you consider 'enough to carry you through another shortage without concern'? Ive been a gun owner now for about 11 years, which means that shortage is like 30-40% of my firearms life experience. A story for the grandkids for me, the way someone who lived through the gas crisis might talk about that....

anyway, for me to continue uninterrupted with my shooting habits (circa few months ago, im in a bit of transition now) during an ammo shortage like that of 2012-2016 (-ish??) AND have NO 'concerns'...that number must be close to 75-100k 22lr for me. I am considering the psychology of the time. its history now, so we can put, or at least debate, an 'end date', but at the time as weeks turn into months turn into years.....I can't imagine NOT changing my habits and having NO concerns without at least that much ammo. I shot ~10k rouns of 22lr in the 6 months that I started high volume shooting. Just blowing through sleeves of CCI minimag every time I went, which was multiple days per week. I dunno....

I just finally moved my ammo from taped up cardboard boxes to metal ammo cans and I can say for certain I only have a few rounds left from my in-use 50rd box and the ammo from the 50rd box i bought just the other day...
[glances over at 50cal ammo cans]
I individually wrap my 22lr rds...

I have not bought any 22 in about a year but next time they go on sale I will buy a couple more boxes. Never have enough 22s. And I just got the grandkids a Savage Rascal so I might need to get another box.

I answered the first one, can’t answer this one too ;). But yes, maybe you’ll get enough good replies for that one.

I m like Barney off Andy Griffith just have that one magic bullet its a plenty when I can find it.

“Enough” would be whatever needed for me and anyone I want to take to the range to shoot several times a week, until I am 100 years old, just to pick a round number.

So, a lot more.

I don't have a lot, but I know someone that has more than me.

I can count mine by the box on two hands. There are 10 boxes with ten boxes each inside them in my boxes. Thats about as much as i'm willing to acknowledge publicly.

We shoot alot of .22lr; I use it instead of dry fire practice :D

so....in that regard, I buy...ALOT of .22lr, but I'm always trying to bump up the storage threshold. It's like digging a hole in the sand to keep water in at the beach right now

Anyone concerned about shelf life? Rimfire doesn’t keep nearly as long as Centerfire ammo. Under fairly constant environmental conditions it’s still good for decades but... throw temperature or moisture fluctuations in and it’s “no bueno”. My buddy kept his in an ammo can in his garage where it was allowed to get hot and cold for years. It started to go bad. Some Low velocity results and a squib load lodged in his barrel was the result. I try to use my oldest stuff first when practical. That means I have to tell myself to not be a lazy slug and pull out the old boxes

I haven’t finished shooting what I bought before Sandy Hook, so I guess I had enough to get through at least one.

I saddled the .22LR pony after buying my first NFA can... subsonic, standard velocity , stingers..I can up 1600 rounds in a 30cal can when I can find it... just to keep the itch-away.

I think I have around 8000 right now. In ammo shortages like these when centerfire is too hard to replace I start shooting .22's more often. It goes bang and punches a hole in something and doesnt deplete my stock of centerfire. .

Got one of these for when I get my 15-22 suppressed and feel like mag dumping all day.

Burning through my last 1k of remington before digging into my CCI stash.. at the rate ive been going through 22lr the last two years, I should have enough for 4 or 5 years if I dont restock along the way.

Been blowing through more 223 and 308 than anything else.

Unless you're just wasting it, blasting it or "plinking" as some of you call it, how much do you really need?

Now if you're talking killing stuff, 3 or 4 boxes a year should be plenty.
