New guy here currently in Ladson, recently moved down south from Indiana. So far really enjoying this "winter" weather lol! In the near future I will be going through the process of getting my SC CWP, seems to be a little more involved than getting my IN lifetime permit.
Well...there's "involved" and then there's "pain in the *ss".
In SC, you need to take the concealed carry class...call it about 50 bucks. Then it's fill out the application, send it in with a set of prints and the fee and you'll get it in a few weeks.
Being from Lafayette, Indiana originally, they used to make it a royal PITA way back when I got my first few permits in Indiana. (Mid-80s on)
Indiana is a "shall issue" state. HOWEVER, the Lafayette PD could still make it a PITA.
FIRST you had to go to the LPD downtown to get the application. BUT WAIT! You couldn't just GO there and get it...you had to go there and get it the ONE DAY OF THE WEEK that they would allow for it...between the hours of 2 and 3 in the afternoon.
THEN you had to fill out the form...which said "typed or neatly printed". BUT WAIT! LPD REQUIRED you to TYPE the form out. So you were NOT going to get the form filled out in time to turn it in on the same day...which meant you would have to take time off work AGAIN the following week so you could drop the form (and their processing fee) off on that ONE day between 2 and 3 pm.
THEN you had to come back the NEXT week to get the form BACK from them. Guess when? Yep, that ONE day between 2 and 3 pm.
What you got was the form you filled out and a Lafayette PD letterhead form letter which said "We really don't think he needs this because blah, blah, blah."
Then you put it all in an envelope with the state processing fee and mailed it off.
About a week or two later you'd get your permit. A tissue-paper thin pink (or some other such color) piece of paper about 4 inches square which you could fold up and put in your wallet. But you could NOT laminate it, because that would make it durable or something.
