Hey! The US flag in the gym at my daughters’ school needs to be cleaned. See pic below - the white isn’t very white anymore. We plan to volunteer to get it done, or it may not get done. :)
I think it’s a 5x8, but hard to judge since it’s hanging way up.
Are there regulations for handling it and cleaning it?
Anything we should consider when determining how to clean it (or where to have it cleaned)?
Thanks!

On Flag Day most dry cleaners will clean them for no charge and that’s also acceptable.

On this subject. My flag has ripped and needs replacing. Where do I take the old one where she will get the proper send off ?

Ace Hardware stores might still have a collection box for old flags (they used to do this, but I don't have one local to me so I don't know if they still do this). They turn them over to scout packs/troops for retirement ceremonies.

Interesting that there are no regs, just the VFW. Those who respect the flag decide how to treat it with respect for cleaning and removing from service.

As someone else noted, the Boy Scouts have an official flag retirement ceremony. I'm sure a troop local to you would take an old flag and dispose of it properly.
