I like to keep an extra AR lower or two in the safe. Long story short, one turned into another rifle via an advantageous trade for an upper + a free 80% lower blank + some BF deals. But my safe is FULL!

Like “full” as in, “a few have to be positioned juuuuuust right in order to close the door, and I have 2 AR pistols against the ceiling of my safe” full.

Maybe I can get a little creative... Which is a better pillow: 870, AR, or FVSR?

Or maybe I could do one of these!

Love it! My wife approves! :D

You may just need to cut back on tee shirts.

I mean... it's a nice gun and all looks like there's a qd swivel point built right into the the enhanced lower...
But where did you get that dresser and how much did it cost you?? I didn't think they even made them out of real wood anymore. Oak? how much weight does that bottom hold before bowing and popping/splitting? is there some kind of crossbeam under it for support?

It came from a place called “unfinished furniture” about 20 years ago. We were a bit poorer when we had the babies, so we bought a few of these on sale for less than $100 and painted them. They’ve been great! This one is in the guest room, wouldn’t want company to feel forgotten in the event of an emergency, and besides they’re in a perfect spot to protect the only access to the second floor and have great cover.

edit: bottom won’t hold a drawer full of ammo, but I think it’s held a 5yr old girl.

Separating uppers from lowers has helped me get a few more in there.

I have a similar problem...it goes like this:

Me: “I’ll buy a couple lowers just to stash away....and now I have a new rifle...”

The Habitat ReSstore has lots of furniture, depending on the location.
My coworker got an old amoire type TV cabinet, all solid, like it came from a hotel room $50.
He put a false back inside it to store some of his less used rifles and a few pistols with ammo.
He has an old computer flat monitor in front so most would never know what is behind the secret door.

Nice to have a new rifle, but now you have one less lower stashed away. You should probably replace it...

Here is said rifle. I figured out I have less than $350 in it as it sits, pretty darn good IMO.

You know when you see videos of liberal protesters yelling "THIS IS WHAT DEMOCRACY LOOKS LIKE"? I just think of guns when I see that. same as when I see good rifles built cheap.
Right now, really good rifles that function better and shoot better than most in history can be had by pretty much everybody for very little investment. And that's what scares the people who want to control us. That's why they HAVE to take them away to work on their goals.

One day I will have a Safe Room. I had a hidden room, with safe inside. The problem with the Home Restore furniture repurposed, and with firearms hanging with your clothes in the closet, is that a thief will find it with a metal detector.

Ultimately determined their will get into anything. The idea is just to delay by hardening the target, forcing them to hang around a crime scene longer than comfortable, making lots of noise trying to get in, overwhelming the opportunistic burglar looking for pills and cash.

The folks you need to worry about are the strangers you let INTO your home. Always make sure your safe is out of view from HVAC or boiler techs, carpet installers, plumber whatever. If they “sell your Info” it comes with lots of intel. Also don’t post about your lovely week long vacation on Facebook or internet until AFTER the trip (my wife used to have insatiable need to post this crap).

It’s almost always the “little things” that add up or facilitate not becoming a target. Make sure deadbolt is attached to door JAMB with 3 inch wood screws (same with a few of the hinge screws), not the useless 1.5 inch they come with etc. now it takes 6-8 adult male kicks to maybe get through instead of a definite 1-3. That’s a huge difference when it comes to passive burglary.

I'll add that you don't necessarily have to post anything, anywhere to become a target while you're on vacation.

One of my co-workers and his family were getting ready to leave for a week long vacation. By getting ready, I mean they were steady taking luggage, pillows, etc., to their vehicle. They decided to do this around mid-morning. Any of their neighbors could have been watching.

Needless to say, his vacation was cut short after learning his house was broken into and about a dozen firearms were stolen.

That's why nearly everything is loaded late at night the night before I leave. Still won't stop someone from snooping, but a lot less likely. That and the vehicle is backed in the driveway.

never thought about the day packing vs night. Will be something I need to consider with moving into small lot developer type community

Were the firearms in a safe?

Yep. We back into the garage most of the way and load that way.

that's what I was going to mention.
Privacy of loading/unloading and not letting people know if your cars are there is a great thing about garages.
the drawback to garages is that if somebody can get in the garage door (hook the release, clone the signal, etc) they enjoy that same privacy. And most people don't secure the door from the garage to the house anywhere near as well as an actual external door should be secured.

We have either packed late at night or very early morning i.e. 4am or so. One time we were getting ready to pack the car at 4am and we noticed a car sitting down the street with someone in it. (we live in a very quite area) we waited about 15 minutes to see if he was going to leave, but nope. So I call communications (not 911) and told them what was up. They sent a deputy out. Turned out the guy was waiting on my neighbor to come out of the house. They were going on a week long fishing trip. My neighbor and I still laugh about it to this day.

I would only revise one sentence. You want the deadbolt plate to be fastened through the JAMB, into the jack studs that create the rough opening. The door jamb itself is only 5/8”-3/4”, depending on material.

Thanks for the technical correction. I thought the jamb was essentially the full frame including the 2x4s.

When the Redneck Revolt Commie/Antifa people in Chapel Hill find you you will need all that firepower and security. We’ll see a news story about weapons of mass destruction and an arsenal. Be careful.

ha, for sure on that one. I’ve seen “arsenal” in “news” stories that ended up being like 2 handguns and a bolt action and the article was about a domestic dispute incident.

That vault room is from my prior home sold when moving here. Rest assured, my OpSec only allows for retrospective declassified photos. Any such arrangement in my future dwelling would not be posted until it too w as no longer relevant.
