I shoot at Blackstone Shooting Sports here in Charlotte. One of these days I need to get to Shooters Express in Belmont,NC. In truth,I need more places to shoot than I need guns. So,where do you shoot?

Foothills shooting complex,
Cherryville,NC. Well worth the 45 minute drive. Shooter's Express don't bother, I was in there a few months ago and witnessed them renting a pistol to 2 girls who had never touched a firearm, they asked me for help because they didn't know how to load the mags smh!

I shoot on private land that a friend owns. NC Wildlife Resources Commission is in process of building several ranges across the state for public use. They are in process of building one about 25 miles from my house. Their goal is to have enough of them so no one in the state is more than 50 miles from a range.

I shoot there about once a week. The only downside is some of the range restrictions but if you know the range officers and they know you they leave you alone. I like their steel range and the pistol range.

Forget those indoor ranges and join PHA. ;)

All you folks with property, mind posting amount of acreage and county?

Researching for shooting/hunting property within next year. If don’t want public please PM.

muchos gracias

You are up in Gates County correct? I know they have been planning one in Camden County, but that is the only one I have heard about for N.E. NC

we shoot in my lower pasture when hunting season ain't going on so basically Jan- about 2 weeks before turkey season then from the close of turkey season till a couple of weeks before bow season starts. Some of you have been here. I think only one griped about it, guess the harmonics messed with his shooting or could've been we cracked on him bout him missing lol. That was before I got a new shooting stand either left or right and now got different types of steel up out to almost 400 yards long as you're safe you can shoot em up but the main thing is finding me not doing something or if it rains a bunch back pasture becomes swamp shooting lol. So up to right at 400 yards steel and paper

Usually at Flintlock in UNF...hell of a drive, but I love being at Uwharrie.

I’ve gotta work on getting a membership at PHA.
I like Flintlock pretty well. Rick, the RO who is usually out there when I go is a pretty good dude, usually end up talking to him for a while inbetween rifles.

Any info on where these new sites are?
Edit: nvm, I found them.

I wish they would put one up in Wilkes. Much closer than Flintlock.

Frontline Defense in Warrenton, NC, it's worth the trip.
Triangle Shooting Academy in Raleigh.

I'm shopping land for general screwing around on. Camping, shooting, off-grid whatever-ing. Its harder than I thought to find ideal acreage.

agreed. Land is one thing, but the wife isn’t going to be to impressed with me buying 50 acres of grass and trees (maybe if there’s lots of flowers too?). So I need a cabin, with scenic views so she can soak in hot tub with glass of wine. Then I need it to be within 3 hrs of my house so it can be within “bug out” range if need be. Little to no neighboring properties with less acreage so don’t get complaints about shooting hundreds of rounds, off road vehicles etc...

certainly problems money can solve, but my budget is like 300k, not 1.3 mil. Very curious to hear what other folks have and their experience

I am a member of a small indoor range in Hickory. I go there on occasion for pistols. I also go with friends to a gamelands area about 15 minutes out of town, and shoot steel with handguns and also some rifles. We go fairly often, except during hunting season. Have to slow down then, as not to mess with hunters. Also occasionally go with a friend that is a member of Rowan County Wildlife Association. Really like this range and would love to be a member... if it wasn't almost 1.5 hours from home base. Also have a friend that has his own fully covered 140 yard max range, on family property. Has a HUGE berm at the end, and goes for a long way past that to a mountain, just in case someone were an idiot. His berm is 15 or more deep, contains block, sand, sawdust, and dirt. Can even shoot his 50bmg there.

Actually I live in Hertford County right across the Chowan River from Gates County. The range I'm talking about is already under construction in Northampton County, next to Odom Prison property. Northampton County borders Hertford County to the west and Gates County borders on the East. Just Google NCWRC shooting ranges and you should get a map of the range locations.

JACKSON, N.C. (Dec. 10, 2019) — The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, in partnership with the N.C. Department of Public Safety (DPS), will host an open house with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 10:30 a.m. to celebrate the grand opening of the Odom Shooting Range.

From a Wildlife Commission email yesterday:

The event is open to public, and those in attendance will be allowed to bring firearms and use the range following the ribbon cutting ceremony.

“North Carolina’s outdoor heritage is important to our quality of life and economic vitality,” said Gordon Myers, the Commission’s executive director. “We are grateful to partner with the DPS on this project to insure that people in this region of the state have a safe and readily available public access infrastructure that supports our hunting and shooting sports heritage.”

Starting Dec. 18, the range will open to the public from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday through Saturday, and from noon until 5 p.m. on Sunday. The range will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

“DPS agreed to partner in this important endeavor to allow the shooting public and law enforcement to hone their skills on a top-notch firing range,” said Tim Moose, the chief deputy secretary for the Department of Public Safety. “This project to improve and convert a practice range used by prison staff to one that benefits a variety of hunters and law enforcement officers is a win-win for everyone, and DPS will continue to use the range for training."

The range, which is located at 709 Striper Ln. in Jackson, features a 100-yard range with eight shooting stations, a 25-yard range with eight shooting stations and a six-station target archery range. The shooting range can be accessed via Bryantown Road, two-thirds of a mile southeast of the Odom Prison entrance.

The Commission will oversee operation and routine maintenance of the range and will staff it with safety officers. The facility will be available to the general public, shooting sports teams and law enforcement for practice, training and recreational use. A daily pass for the range will be free of charge.

"The repurposing of this surplus state property is an example of government activity at its best,” said Rep. Michael Wray. “The new recreational opportunities will be a draw to Northampton County that will provide great fun as well as increased economic activity to our area."

The Wildlife Commission funded the $1 million project using money from Pittman Robertson Federal Grant Funds and the Wildlife Endowment Fund. For more information on the Commission’s shooting range program, visit ncwildlife.org/shootingranges.
