Anyone know anything about Italian torino (possibly Vertelli-vitali) rifles?

Friend at work says he has an 1888 Italian Torino rifle. He is considering selling it (not really a gun collector), and was asking me about it. From my searches I think it is actually a Vertelli-Vitali, but something I saw said they stopped making them in 1887. What could he reasonably expect to get if he sells it?

I'm not sure on the price that it could fetch. If it has some ammo it could be higher. The best way for research is to shoot it. When shot and the bullet hits the target you'll hear a 'whop' sound. Then you'll know it's an Italian vs. a Chinese knockoff.

I couldn't help myself... (sorry)

Can you get some pics including all the stampings you can find?

I will see if I can get some pictures from him next time I see him. He's not really a gun guy, so he doesn't really know too much about it. He's looking to sell to get something for home defense (likely a pistol).
