just a reminder...

You can request up to a full years worth of travel days. Just have to make sure the end date is one calendar day before the start date. So and of these work:
12/1/19-11/30/20
12/15/19-12/14/20
1/1/20-12/31/20

I’ve always found it easiest to track by submitting forms each fall for the following year. That way you can travel without any advanced notice.

For example, I’m already approved to take any SBR/SBS to ten states at any point in 2020. I don’t have a pic of my 2020 forms saved...but this one is for my 2018 forms.

sheesh.
I still haven't filed to bring 2 SBRs down with me since I moved here in the summer...
don't worry though, I still have guns. lots of guns.

Is this something that can be done online or a mailed in form only?
Do you put on there which states you want to travel to, or does it open you up to all states?
Sorry for so many questions, never heard of this before (just got a SBR this year)

Although it would be one of the easiest things to do online, it’s not in EForms. You can mail it in, fax it in, or email it. Whichever method you choose, they’ll mail you paper copies back.

You have to put a specific destination for interstate travel. However, intrastate travel isn’t restricted. So I’ve just picked a range in some of the states and used that as my destination. Only one state allowed per form.

If you’ve never heard of this...you’ve never read your Form 1. :p

I file this in the "con" column when deciding between a SBR or pistol.
Meh.

5 minutes of work, once a year, $0. Ability to take 11 firearms to 10 different states.

It may be a “con”, but it’s so minuscule it doesn’t even impact my decision making process.

NOPE lol
I got the stamp and got to our buddy @ncengravers to get it engraved and started shooting the next day.

Ok, when you say specific destinations - cities or, for example, a friend's home?
Im interested in this, but trying to figure out if I should and how to go about it

They need a street address. They might take GPS coordinates if it was hunting property, but I’m not sure if they do that anymore.

Again, the permission is required to cross the state line. Once you’re allowed to do that, travel within the destination state doesn’t matter. So pick a friend or relative and use their address. Or a range. Or a gas station. Doesn’t really matter.

I've got my form ready to email in January 2020 for future trips to Battery Oaks. :)

Why wait? My 2020 forms were approved August 9th. I don’t mess around, in case they get lost, denied for some silly reason, or anything else that might happen.

And if you’d looked at the form, here’s what you’d see on p3:

Notice it doesn’t mention silencers or AOWs. The F4 and 5320.20 have similar verbiage. No permission required to cross state lines for those two types of NFA firearms.

Interesting that the form says "may" be required.....

F4 says the same.

But the 5320.20 says:

3E0AE29E-6C88-44B1-80B4-AFD02E871F0A.jpeg

18-922(a)(4) says:

(4)for any person, other than a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector, to transport in interstate or foreign commerce any destructive device, machinegun (as defined in section 5845 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986), short-barreled shotgun, or short-barreled rifle, except as specifically authorized by the Attorney General consistent with public safety and necessity;

So the “may” could be because of the exceptions listed.

27 CFR § 478.28 - Transportation of destructive devices and certain firearms.

(a) The Director may authorize a person to transport in interstate or foreign commerce any destructive device, machine gun, short-barreled shotgun, or short-barreled rifle, if he finds that such transportation is reasonably necessary and is consistent with public safety and applicable Stateand local law. A person who desires to transport in interstate or foreign commerce any such device or weapon shall submit a written request so to do, in duplicate, to the Director. The request shall contain:

(1) A complete description and identification of the device or weapon to be transported;

(2) A statement whether such transportation involves a transfer of title;

(3) The need for such transportation;

(4) The approximate date such transportation is to take place;

(5) The present location of such device or weapon and the place to which it is to be transported;

(6) The mode of transportation to be used (including, if by common or contract carrier, the name and address of such carrier); and

(7) Evidence that the transportation or possession of such device or weapon is not inconsistent with the laws at the place of destination.

(b) No person shall transport any destructive device, machine gun, short-barreled shotgun, or short-barreled rifle in interstate or foreign commerce under the provisions of this section until he has received specific authorization so to do from the Director. Authorization granted under this section does not carry or import relief from any other statutory or regulatory provision relating to firearms.

(c) This section shall not be construed as requiring licensees to obtain authorization to transport destructive devices, machine guns, short-barreled shotguns, and short-barreled rifles in interstate or foreign commerce: Provided, That in the case of a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed dealer, such a licensee is qualified under the National Firearms Act(see also Part 479 of this chapter) and this part to engage in the business with respect to the device or weapon to be transported, and that in the case of a licensed collector, the device or weapon to be transported is a curio or relic.
