Vacation ideas

I was going to post that, but googled the distance first and it didn’t meet his 500 mile requirement. :(
It 389 miles away from me in Winston-Salem, I did not even think about OP’s location.... I fail.

Edit: Siri says the trip from Charlotte to Philadelphia is 537 miles by car.

Head down to Memphis. Lots to do and the weather shouldn't be bad ...

First week of March, I'll be in Portugal.

Bring me back a pasteis de nata... Seriously though, I went last summer. Loved it. Enjoy...

Sea brook Island, SC. Small, quiet, and watch the fishing boats come into the river with lots of dolphins following. Close to a short drive to Charleston for all the fun and food downtown.

Also Isle of Palms outside of Charleston, SC. Small, quiet, shopping, excellent food, and 18 minutes to Charleston.

OBX, for when you want to drive 500 miles and never leave the same state you live in just to find it's a Nor'Easter every day of the week. No thanks.

Me? I vote Amelia Island Florida north of Jax- specifically Little Talbot state park. There's a nice little bait shop on Hecksher road coming from the Jacksonville Zoo exit on 95. Visit all the historical sites, the zoo and Jax Beach. Drive down A1A from Jax Beach thru Ponte Vedra AKA TPA Sawgrass golfcourse area and oogle all the rich people's beach houses and 250K cars.

I love North Florida so much I almost sold everything and moved to the middle of nowhere just to be within an hours drive of AI in Starke Florida. year round green Pasture and Palm Trees? I'm in 100%. Ronnie Van Zant thought so too ;0

Late March and Early April is Paradise in FL. Cool nights, warm days and good fishing. No Mosquitos and you have to work to get a sunburn.

Maybe take the family on a Mississippi river cruise, since you mention the need for entertainment. New Orleans: music, food, gambling, horse racing + the cruise up the river.

He said they wanted something to do.
lots of history in New Bern. We enjoy Tryon Palace, down town history tours, birthplace of pepsi and we always go to the cow café for ice cream. There are also river tours fishing and a 20 min drive to hunters pointe sporting clays. easy drive to the NC aquarium my kids loved the Aurora Fossil Museum

My wife wants to see the chip and Joanna stuff. I just want to see the Cowboys stuff.

There’s a decent bar across the street from the silos. Which is where I always wait when my wife visits that tourist trap.

A hotel. Any hotel close by will do.

Out of the house and away from the kids.

Turn the phones off.

Sleep in.

Eat when and what we want.

Leave the Do Not Disturb sign on the door the whole time.

For a solid week.

Two queen sized beds... one of them to sleep in. The other to be left with the sheets so firmly glued to the mattress by the time we leave they have to chuck the whole thing.

That sounds like fun if I wasn't going with the in-laws.

They aren't bad, but I'm going for thee Oricci de Mare.

With a cafe con leche, it's my favorite way to start the day...

Sea urchin? I'm down. Clube Naval Lisboa on the river was the best octopus I've ever eaten in my life... If you are in that area and like tentacles...

I've had grilled octopus in a little town called Carloforte, off of Sardinia, that is where my family is from. I have cousins there.

Never thought I'd see the words "vacation" and "in-laws" in the same sentence LOL.
My In-laws are very generous and take the entire family on vacations or trips might be a better word. We actually stopped going every year about 7 years ago because of tensions with the brother in laws family. So when we go now it is usually either only 3-4 days or it is with just MIL and FIL. We went to hawaii about 12 years ago and it was a great trip with just the MIL and FIL, very relaxing no hurry.

In Waco there is Fort Fisher, the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame, right on the banks of the Brazos River and I-35. Very big gun and historical collection.

If they want something to do, come on down to my dad's place in Saluda. We are all cleaning up brush, working on and cleaning out outbuildings, sorting items, taking off sellable scrap, got two pickups to perform some TLC on, need to overhaul the Farmall H, do a little bush hogging, work on some of the farm implements...I can give them something to DO. They might not consider it a VACATION - but it's what I've been doing with my "vacations" the past 12 years or so... ;) Oh, there's shooting and fishing. Should have listed those first, I guess.
