Hi all,

I've read all that I can here and the junk found on the interweb...

I have a Rem 700 SPS in 308 1:10 twist shooting 168g. Current glass is Zeiss conquest 6.5x20 MC with a standard post reticle in MOA on a 20 moa mount. With this I can only shoot out to 650 yds (I've got a 850 yd field available) as it will only go to 16 MOA and given the reticle I can't add in additional elevation consistently with the winds.

Soo... I'm looking new glass and I've decided it should be in mil/mil and FFP. I'd say my budget is roughly $1500, I'd love to go to 2grand but I'm looking a H&R Handi rifle in 300blk for this year's gun funds.

What are yall's thoughts? I've been looking at the Burris XTR II (concerned about the CA in the higher magnifications), and the Vortex PST2 but are there any others?

Thank you Jboyette How is the image at higher magnification above 15x? I'm running a Burris C4 on a BPM 300blk and I've been happy with the glass and tracking thus far.

Mckenziedrums, Thanks, I'll definitely look into them I'm open to anything since the old big names are not making glass like they used to.

With a 1500 budget you're into new vortex razor gen 1, used nightforce, leupold mk4, and some really nice others as well.

Vortex, can't beat the clarity, or the warranty

Bushnell ERS with a G2 wouldn't be a bad choice at all. It's what I would pick if I had the budget for it. I just drool over that reticle plus the 34 mm tube.

I did have a bunch of optics of different brands. Just through the attrition of selling rifles and trying new things I have to agree with you. If the warranty and initial buy in is ofngreat concern it is hard to beat the Vortex line.

If you are really concerned about the scope being absolutely solid so that you can abuse it and not be too concerned about breaking it...... You may want to look at Nightforce. They have a solid scope. Beefy and rugged.

Great. We shoot ours in F-Class and tactical matches all the time

Hey guys, I haven't forgot about it, been dealing with some family medical issues the past week and it has me sidetracked. I plan on doing a summary of available options and letting yall know on what I decide.

Thanks JBoyette for the response.

If I had that $ for a new FFP mil/mil scope, I would just get a Nightforce and call it a day. That said, the Burris XTR II is great and won't cost that much so you'll have some money left over.

I have two XTR II's and a PST and both are good scopes. I like the FFP because I enjoy trying to range objects and get the distance. Easier with a FFP. I also like the MIL/MIL scopes. I had used MOA for years and wanted to learn something new. That in itself is fun too. You may want to make a list of "options" of what you want in a scope and then go shopping and see if you can get the most out of your purchase. You may end up with a nice piece of glass for example and no zero stop. My PST Vortex has some kind of goofy little brass shims you have to stack in the turret for the zero stop. WTH???? I have two older Zeiss Conquest scopes with target turrets, duplex reticles, and no zero stop. Great glass but they are sitting in the drawer right now. They have been replaced with SWFA SS 12X MIL/MIL scopes that cost half as much. I may put them on some of my hunting rifles or maybe just sell them. So my suggestion is to find scopes that have the features you want and then look at brand names.

And don't forget you will need to purchase rings and bases. That can run into several hundred dollars too.

Is that 16 MOA both up and down or 16 MOA total?

I ask because if the full range is 32 MOA, it may be possible to adjust the reticle to the highest point of adjustment and remount the scope using shims with your current mount or get a 2 or 4 MOA scope rail.
