You ever bid on something and then wish you hadn’t.

I have several Chinese that shoot very well and one Hungarian you wouldn’t want me shooting at you for sure. :p
I’d like to shoot one of those just to see.
At those prices I’d still be comparing it to a high end AR with a Geissele trigger and match barrel.

To the original post - yeah, once or twice, nothing too pricey though, thankfully.

BUT
Here's an even MORE odd thing than what Dan and others have posted.
I was on shopgoodwill.com and bid on some Russian nesting dolls. Got outbid, but not by much and the price was still low, so I bid again.
Rinse and repeat a time or two and I lost.
Oh well.

Week later a couple Im friends with presented me with a gift...Russian nesting dolls of USSR premiers. The same ones Id been bidding on.
We pulled up the emails - yep, they were bidding on the same item I wanted FOR ME.

Is a Russian nesting doll code for something? or ya just have a thing for actual Russian nesting dolls?

I've worked enough auctions I've seen people make some really bad decisions. It only takes two people with a little bit of ego between them to run a bid into the stratosphere.

Case in point , we were selling a Thunder 5 pistol at an estate auction about 4 years back. These are basically the Taurus Judge before Taurus, but even more crude. Only two guys bidding on it. They started at $100 and ended at 7.
Auctioneer and family were happy.

I collect a lot of soviet area items
Did a lot of studies on the USSR in college, the history fascinates me

sounds like your friends picked a good gift.
you owe them a couple beers for the extra money you cost them.
oh crap, straitedge. not beers.. um... granolas? Lagunitas non-alcoholic Hoppy Refresher?

Years ago I attended a farm equipment auction with the intent of buying some hay rakes that they had (which I ended up winning).

While waiting for my items to come up, a low hour (around 300 hours and 42 hp) Ford 3010 tractor came up and the auctioneer started the bidding at 10k. Now this was a really nice tractor And sold new for 18k three years prior. Nobody responded so I stuck my hand up figuring that others would jump in to bid.

The auctioneer closed the bidding about 20 seconds after my bid and I had a new tractor....

Major buyers remorse on my part. I didn’t plan on buying a tractor! However a couple of folks came up to me after the bid and said that they were thinking of bidding on it because the price was so low when the auctioneer close out the bidding.

Took it back to the farm and have used the heck out of it. I’m glad that I bought it but sure had buyers remorse at the time.

No. I only bid if the gun is a steal. If there is something I want I put in on my watch list and bid at the last miute provided it is still a deal. Nine time out of ten I dont end up bidding but will snipe something in a heart beat.

The worst is when you bid on it and then reread the add and realize that you misread the add the 1st time I enede up with a 44 mag instead of a 45 lc that way Ihad done a search for 45lc and just skipped over where it said in the listing that it was a 44mag

Nothing worse than used restaurant equipment auctions.Nothing like paying more for a used item than it cost new.Stopped going for that reason.

I have gotten a few good deals doing a minimum bid and winning a gun though not recently.Easier to stick to my budget these days.Just don't have to "have" anything these days.

I did some excessive drinking one night and went through gunbroker for about an hour (i'm guessing) making low ball offer bids on random guns i liked. Forgot about them completely until next morning when i started seeing the you've been outbid emails rolling in. I looked at everything i had bid on and added it up. turns out if i had won everything i bid on, it would have cost me over 9k. Seeing as how i only had 500$ in my bank account, i started rooting against myself winning. Luckily i lost them all and learned a valuable lesson. I was told as a youngin don't drink and drive but that day i learned not to drink and surf...gunbroker that is;)

Now I want to take my Norinco Underfolder up there to see if they will offer me over $300 for it. Only to watch it be flipped on GB for more. o_O

Stay OFF GB...……………………...
What he said but then ...I've gotten some screaming deals in the last 12 months. Bidding on 1 now I know I can get for hundreds less than MSRP on a gun that usually goes for that or more. It's a bucket list gun that I could never afford otherwise and I found the no reserve auction by accident. Totally looking for something else.

I'm an enthusiast of tube type electronics. A few years back I was innocently cruising EBAY when I saw a really nice tube type transmitter in the obligatory 6' tall black metal rack. I tossed in a bid for $50 and went downstairs to have dinner knowing I'd never get it....

An hour later I was explaining to my wife why I needed to rent a small pickup and drive to Mt Carmel Ill.
