Above our front door is a large picture window. Pretty standard stuff for houses in Charlotte. Yesterday, out of the blue, birds started kamikaziing into it at an alarming rate.

The window racked up an impressive three kills yesterday, and so far today it's racked up four more (and it's not even 2:00pm yet).

We've been in this house for twenty-two years and I've never seen anything like it.

I feel bad for the little guys. It's probably Trump's fault.

We've had a few do that but not that many.
(since this is CFF)
A neighbor 3 houses down had a Coopers Hawk smash a window above the door. Flew around in the house for about an hour and finally made it's way out. The cleanup took 4 days. Lots of blood and droppings.

That looks like a Cedar Waxwing. I've only seen those in my yard once and they did not attack my house.

I had birds attack a particular side window every spring for three years. Brown Northern Cardinals every time.
Fake owl didn't work, curtains didn't work. Finally sprayed the outside with this:

Haven't had any trouble since, and don't have to worry about the neighbors checking me out with their telescope while I'm working on guns in my skivvies.

Tape something inside the window for a while until they leave. That might help them realize it's an object they can't fly through. One of the buildings at WCU was bad for that and they started putting signs and stuff in the windows.

I took this picture yesterday afternoon:

If you zoom in (like you don't have better things to do) you can see all the kill zones.

It's like a dartboard of death.

Wow - I would have thought the grille would tip 'em off.

Hence the term "birdbrain."

A bit off-topic, but my sister-in-law once had a hawk fly through a window to grab a cockatiel that was on its perch just inside. The window was not open. The hawk survived, the cockatiel did not.

You might want to take that Tippi Hedren poster off the wall.

Not gonna lie; that joke is too sublime and/or intellectual for me to get.

edit - ooohhhhh she starred in The Birds. Well played.

We had the same problem with cardinals until I put rubber snakes on the window sill.
Same here. Dadgum male cardinal would fly to my bedroom window and fight himself in the reflection, always a first crack of daylight and usually about 45 minutes before I'd get up. Everyday. And there's his female mate in the tree nearby egging him on.
Not just my window either. He'd fight himself in my van mirror to, and crap all over the thing.

So I ponder what can I do about this?
And one morning I look out, and there's 2 of my barn cats in the bushes under the window. Guess I wasn't the only one who noticed this bird.
The next day, both the male and female birdies had moved on.

Redbirds are apparently notorious for harassing windows. Mine have sealed in screens from the outside so they eventually got dirty enough that they reflect poorly and the problem disappears.

At this point, I'm interested in seeing how high of a score you get.

Haven't heard one bash it's tiny little brain in since 8:10 this morning. That's likely due to one of three things:
  1. It's cloudy out.
  2. The cute little buggers have all migrated out of my yard.
  3. OMG THEY'RE ALL DEAD. NOOOOOOOO.
I'm glad it's over. The carnage was weighing heavy on my soul.

Coupla pieces of blue tape on there'll stop the lemmings from continuing...

Geez, I just liked about 15 posts in this one thread alone.

This is a great forum so far.
