‘There was blood everywhere.’ Military-style weapon likely fired bullet that hurt driver. - Raleigh

Typical emotional and hysterical laden clap trap from the News and Disturber.

Thtoughout all that, I still didn't see facts regarding what caliber, etc, she was shot with other than it presumably came through the woods which initially leads me to suspect hunting, but it's off season.

Wow! someone shooting near a road without a backstop. It went in the side of the car with enough energy to penetrate the door and find an artery, but not so much energy that it kept going. I'm thinking it was likely not a "fired in the air" shot. There's a chance it was intentional... I wonder if other drivers on that road will find random bullet holes?

Padilla said it appeared that the large-caliber bullet struck the driver’s door from an angle somewhere behind the car. It ripped through the seat, into the back of Gerzsenyl’s thigh and down into her calf. In the process, Padilla said, it struck an artery, causing massive blood loss.

Large caliber ... so it was NOT an AR then ... and where does “large caliber” begin?

As to location ... Town & Country Rd near Kingsley Rd ... that is about 1/4 to 1/2 mile north of Crabtree Valley Mall in the middle of a fairly populated and decent residential area. Just a like guess ... 6pm on the 4th ... wonder if some idiot was popping off a round or two celebrating the 4th?

The News and Disturber is the local Marxist mouthpiece.
Josephus Daniels (1862-1948) acquires The News & Observer as a distressed property at auction and, with financial support from about 70 prominent Democrats, becomes its editor. Daniels’ goal — and the paper’s role — is to support the state Democratic Party.

The picture of the car door and the associated entry hole from the shot certainly doesn't look to be from a large caliber firearm. I guess someone must have recovered the rifle or someone came forward since the family was told that the injury was from a military style rifle.

How about a black powder round to celebrate the 4th. The person will be caught because they'll eventually tell someone, etc.

When I lived in CA. certain ethnic neighborhoods were known to shoot into the air when they had celebrations on certain holidays. It was not uncommon at all.

I'm pretty much an amateur at this firearms stuff but is that a FMJ bullet, no mushrooming to speak of, so not what I would expect for a hunting round.

.

They could have provided some sense of scale for the bullet.

The trajectory appears pretty flat from the door through the seat.

Nope. The News & Disturber doesn't have the drive or means to learn a subject before they report 'the facts'.
